I've only played MG1, MG2 and MGS. Every time I feel like paying another one I just end up replaying MGS.

It doesn't seem like a series where you can just jump into a random game and know what's happening.

You may like Five more than most, it's one of those things where the more you know about the series the worse it gets, retcons, horrible characterization and more.

MGS1, MGS2, MGS3 are all fantastic. I'd also heavily recommend Rising if you want to go through the series.

Personally, MGS2 is my favorite, and Five is probably the worst with it considering how much it just shits on the good themes of two.

I also got Ground Zeros for free back a couple years ago and haven't touched it. I plan on keeping the tradition.

Ground Zeroes is actually heavily enjoyable and provides great set up as a prologue, the mission variety is great, and it shows how good small changes to a map can be, the tone is good and consistent, and the humor is done better.

Too bad TPP didn't deliver at all.

I just got the Honey Bee. This appears to be the point the story flies off the rails. We got zombie things now? Wtf lol.

At least the game play is excellent

just ignore the story, even for die hard MGS fans it's complete nonsense

gameplay is top notch tho, probably the best 3rd person game ive ever played from that regard.

I just started Phantom Pain because it was free, too. I've played MGS, MGS2 and MGS3, never had a ps3 so I didnt play 4. My favorite in the series has actually been the GC remake of MGS1 (the twin snakes) which is MGS with the MGS2 engine.

MGS2 was so far ahead of its time and it really is one of the best games of the 00s. Its a little silly in some aspects (We managed to avoid drowning!), but its so smooth and one of the best leaps in quality from 1 game to its sequel without losing too much of what made the first installment so much fun.

This. If you like the 3rd person gameplay of 5 make sure to play the HD remake or Subsistence, whatever you can get your hands on. It allows you to move the camera around since the original had a fixed camera depending on where you were.

I took pretty much every guy. They will start getting better as the game goes on where you won't see anyone with less than an A rank.

Just release the crappy ones once you get great ones.
