I haven't grinded in a game for a while. It's shitty and mind numbing, but I've got a laptop with me, I can watch shows, youtube shit, listen to podcasts, etc. I almost can't imagine what it'd be like to just focus on a tedious video game doing the same crap over and over and over again with nothing else to do. Maybe I just daydreamed during it or thought about wrestling or the X-Men?

@GameGodOfAll

YO HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS?!?!?

Look at all the grinding now, all the progression bumps, all the xp and capped xp limits, all the xp boosts and bonuses, all of that just to game the same amount of gameplay back then..

You man, I don't know who you are but grinding in Final Fantasy 5 is WAAAY easier then grinding smiting in Skyrim.

Really, on the ps2 ps1 era, you really only needed to grind for an afternoon, and even that WASN'T EVEN NECESSARY.

Now, most games are the grind.

I started Diablo II again recently (well, continued with my Single Player saves) and the grind is real.

I've done nearly 1000 of what's called a Lower Kurast run (although I guess you'd call it farming rather than grinding). For an idea of what it's like, see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBZh-E49Y-s" data-time="

It's basically a whole lot of teleporting and clicking on chests, corpses, etc.

For those that know what I'm talking about, I lucked out in the past couple of days with 2x Vex, 2x Gul, Sur, 2x Mal, Um and 2x Pul Runes.

@LightHawKnight
Its funny cause you have an SMT quote in your sig, and If you are familiar with SMT then I am sure you know what grinding is.

And in those games, the rewards were greater impact on the battle space with more dynamic spells as you leveled up. In most MMO and other current RPGs, I feel even the little fake rewards are analogous to snack food and hunger.

I've been replaying SMT 1 on the Snes recently, and the grinding there is fine, and I feel I only think that way due to the fact that I have recently been trying to get max everything in Skyrim Recently.

I know what grinding is, and I usually find what people call "grinding" just leveling, or walking through the grass with random encounters.

I didn't find I needed much grinding in the SNES/PS1 era of RPGs. Not in FF5 or FF6, especially not in FF7 or FF8. The most 'grinding' I did in FF10 was the process of collecting ten of each monster for the monster arena.

Star Ocean had a bit of grinding (kinda) when you're powering up your skills. The Tales games have a bit of skill grinding too, because of how the skill combo system works.

I didn't grind for any SMT title before Nocturne, though I've only played SMT1 and SMT3. In SMT1 weapons do a lot of your heavy lifting, and demon recruitment/fusion is how you progress through the game. And in SMT3 I only relied on grinding for unlocking specific skills for my demons or MC; gaining levels came pretty naturally, and raw stats rarely made that big of a difference for success or loss. I did spend hours grinding in Tartarus for persona cards in P3FES, but that was part of an effort to save on resummoning costs because I played it on hard mode. P4 and P5 made that kind of grinding almost complete obsolete.

When I think of games with a savage item grind, I think of mmorpgs, and vanilla FF12.

Okay, I didn't even consider that. I spent a good fifty percent of my playtime listening to Aria of the soul. I used to like that track, back in 2007, now I can hardly stand it.

Well I usually don't even play those types of games. Besides, this is a remastered PS2 game on the PS4 (KH Chain of Memories).
