from page 21;

The Committee has obtained a number of documents that suggest the Kremlin
used the National Rifle Association as a means of accessing and assisting Mr. Trump and
his campaign. Two individuals involved in this effort appear to be Russian nationals
Alexander Torshin and Maria Butina. Mr. Torshin is a Putin ally and the Deputy
Governor of the Central Bank of Russia,125 and Ms. Butina served as his assistant. She
also founded Right to Bear Arms, the Russian equivalent of the NRA, and started a
business with former Trump supporter and adviser Paul Erickson.126 Both Mr. Torshin and Ms. Butina have longstanding ties to ex-NRA president, David Keene, and in 2013, hosted him in Russia for a pro-gun conference.127

During the campaign, Mr. Torshin, Ms. Butina, and their intermediaries
repeatedly offered the campaign back channels to Russia and relayed requests from
President Putin to meet with Mr. Trump. The Kremlin may also have used the NRA to
secretly fund Mr. Trumps campaign. 128 The extent of Russias use of the NRA as an
avenue for connecting with and potentially supporting the Trump campaign needs
examination. Requests for documents and staff interviews have been sent to Ms. Butina,
Mr. Erickson, and Mr. Keene, but they have refused to cooperate.

trump would say he didn't commit no crime while the evidence is right in front of him.

I remember when the narrative was that Russia didn't interfere.

Fun how those goalposts shift and people keep insisting nothing is happening and acting like one year is a long time for special council investigations. Hmmm.

posting for future reference

The use of "this time" is related to the fact that various media figures would frequently doubt Trump's chances at progressing in the electoral cycle, continuously being proven wrong because conventional wisdom largely didn't apply to the 2016 election for various reasons.

The term is obviously a mockery of media in this regard; that's fair enough, but applying the term to investigation demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how they work. It just doesn't follow logically.

Journalist: "X reason Trump will fail in the electoral process"

Trump advocate, mockingly: "This time!"

Regardless of the legitimacy of the journalist's point, there is a logic to what's being said in a mocking tone because it's based on a journalist's (or network's) prior feelings over the issue. It's saying they've been wrong a lot, and will be wrong again.

This does not apply to an investigation because information in an investigation is not publicly shared unless it is leaked. We do not know what they do or don't have and can only base it off of rumors/leaks. Saying "this time!" assumes that Trump is innocent based on zero evidence, and is often backed up by uninformed or incorrect viewpoints, such as the idea that the Mueller investigation running 1~ year is "long", even though it objectively is not per prior SC investigations.

The use of the term "this time" assumes that the investigator is using each new piece of (often leaked information) to try and indict Trump or press charges, even though this is obviously not the case; what is happening is a case is being built regarding the subject of the investigation, which is Russian collusion and any crimes that may be found in the process of investigating it.

So replying with "this time!" is nonsensical. It's a matter of avoiding discussion because you have nothing to add and would rather sully the discussion by pretending to have a point when you do not. It's no different than Democratic dismissal to the idea that Trump could win the 2016 election, something I experienced when I (a liberal) expressed continuous concern in the lead-up to the election that Trump may win states like Michigan and Wisconsin yet was ignored by similarly dismissive statements.

For this particular topic, the term doubly doesn't make sense.

#1: It's not even a media outlet, it's the Republican-led Senate.

#2: It's damning to the NRA more than Trump.

I don't expect any of this to be addressed. It's much easier to smugly dismiss an issue affecting your side of the court rather than actually, y'know, talk about it and discuss it like an adult.

yeah that Republican controlled Senate is notoriously biased against the Republicans in charge. since we can't trust the Republicans to investigate other Republicans and we can't trust the Democrats to investigate them that means it's objectively impossible to have an impartial investigation into fearless and glorious leader.

No shit, the Kremlin has been funneling money to the NRA well before Trump. Go look up how Russian politician Alexander Torshin openly spoke about meeting with NRA officials during the 2012 election and his multiple meetings with NRA presidents along the way.
