With iPhones, in return for an incredibly inflexible "This is how it is, take it or leave it" OS, you get something extremely robust. You're never going to worry about an iPhone getting a virus. The software just works perfectly more or less all the time with no niggles or unexpected behaviour unless it's really old and faulty. I bet the QA department at Apple is scary. Inevitably the more "do it however you like, it's customisable" features software has, the more unexpected and unwanted behaviour you're going to invite. The only time my iPhone ever behaved unexpectedly was after like 5 years and several giant cracks across the screen later. That's pretty amazing. However there were so many times along the way I was screaming at it because it wouldn't allow me to do what I wanted.
