and how many other first world nations have the myriad of other problems the US has which aids in gun violence and helps prevent people from lashing out? the US has a level of social discourse thats either not present in other countries or is significantly less (some for good reason, others less so). and even then when someone wants to start some shit in other countries they tend to replace guns as a method to do it. bombs and vehicles currently hold the record of largest single person killing sprees.

other countries tend to have methods of stopping the root causes of violence before it starts. universal healthcare, supplemental wages, better social help for its citizens if they need it ect. however most of these can really only be sustained through a smaller population and even then many boarder on authoritarian construct (such as hefty surveillance and uber harsh penalties for minor crimes and needing to make sure you dont rock the boat in anyway. the US also has 3x the population than the second largest first world country which combined with all of our other problems can lead to some rocky shit). it all comes down to if you want more security or freedom.

even if gun laws were just as loose in other countries as they were in the US youd probably still not have anywhere near the amount of gun violence.

with all of that said theres got to be 400+ million firearms in the US. with 100+ million owners. with that theres estimated to be about 70k people shot per year (not including suicides and this includes LAWFUL shootings as well). lets assume the worst case scenario for everything with each of those people being shot with a different gun and by a different perpetrator unlawfully (which all of course is definitely not the case). that would mean .07% MAXIMUM of all firearms in civilians hands are used to harm someone. and you would be dipping into the .01% or less if you included all firearms in the US. a vast vast VAST number of firearm owners and their guns dont harm anyone.

you also brought up school shootings of which if you factor in all 90k+ schools in the US and the estimated 74million+ people going to school and how many are shot on average each year you are looking at a roughly .0006% chance of getting shot at school. you have about a 10x higher chance of drowning in your own bathtub than you do getting shot while attending class. basically theres a hell of a lot of other things id be worried about than getting shot.

We know,the conservatives and the NRA dont care.

We have access/ability to defend ourselves and our property.
We have some of the most economic freedoms, not only in terms of tax rate but ease of starting a business, regulations and allowing entrepreneurship.

Other crimes can be boiled down from many various other factors. Look at the root cause of a crime and tell me how it could have been prevented.
A gangfight. A person killing a friend/nemesis. Some mugging, robbery, rape or kidnapping. All these are atypical crimes that can be committed anywhere all over the world and has no single remedy to it. They're basically too general of crimes.
They're NOT even the same s*** and NOT comparable.

But a school shooting by a student? Almost unheard of in any other nation. A crazy guy going into the crowd and shooting up and killing dozens and dozens of people? These kind of crimes stand out because of how the root cause of the high casualty numbers is very clear to us all.

These kind of crimes stand out because of the sheer casualty caused that can very well put them as 'terror attacks' yet hey, it's not carried out by muslim men but white guys exercising their 2nd amendment so everyone doesn't think it is.

And it's really hypocritical considering Americans get more shooting incidents and killings from it than they do from actual third-party terror attacks.

And someone make another a . You've seen a student running into a school to blow up before? No, because
1. Most edgy 14-year olds don't know how to make a bomb
2. It actually takes alot of effort to either smuggle one or get all the needed components

And even then, unless you get one of those big military detonations, a gun still gives you the ability to KILL more than you can with a small radius bomb.

it's rly sad gun crimes have become so commonplace here the news hardly reports about it anymore (unless it's the next annual highschool shooting).

I've yet to see a gun nut make a reason on why he/she even needs to own guns. These people cite personal defense as their main reason and being able to prevent shootings, yet ironically some of them still end up being victims of a mass shooting themselves.

unless you're John Wick or some super elite brave navy SEAL -- being in a crowded place of mass panic and stampede and not knowing where the shots are coming from and with only an onset of fear of getting shot yourself -- is unlikely to have you successfully facing the shooter and gunning him/her down.
And even then, the casualties are already there.

sadly but surprisingly true. You hardly get cases like that elsewhere. If you observe cops/police in other countries, they're far more mild-mannered in their dealings with people. Even with an armed person, they'll try to find some way to disarm, then arrest.

Meanwhile in America, it's shout at the person like some military sergeant about to torture his recruit, start screaming like a mad dog if the person continues to resist, immediately shoot the person if he so much as even puts his hand in his jacket pocket.
