I can appreciate the artistry of it, but it's not the kind of thing I'd choose to read.

What are you talking about? What dud?

The sentence in the OP. Are you dumb, or just pretending to be?

That sentence is one of the most quoted for its language and imagery. I think I've already mentioned that more than once in this thread. So, are you dumb or just pretending to be?

As I already said, That's hardly surprising giving how bad it is.

So, are you dumb or just pretending to be?

Niether. I'm not the one who keeps bringing up how good the author, or book, is as it's if relevant to the disccusion of how bad the sentence in the OP is.

How many times have I mentioned that that sentence in particular is cited as an example of its brilliance? I think you have some reading problems.

I don't think you're exactly the best judge of writing dude. Twice now you've used "hardly surprising" to mean its complete opposite.

Zero times. The closest you've got is to say it's cited to show how sublime the writing get, to which I stated sublime clearly must have very different meaning where you live. The other times you've mentioned as being widely quoted, you either gave no reason for it, or said it's language and imagery.

I think you have some reading problems.

You clearly have reading problem if you think using "hardly surprising" to mean "only surprising a little bit" is using it wrong, and as such can't be a good judge of writing.

That's real funny coming from the person that doesn't know what "hardly surprising" means.

The funny thing is that even if "hardly surprising" meant "only surprising a little bit" it would still mean the opposite of what you intended it to.

He's saying it's not surprising that is the most memorable quote, or something, because it's such a long ass sentence that hardly gets anything across.

Could just said that a mishmash of bumbling of barbarians savaged streaked across the plains in thirst for blood.
