By "doesn't exist anymore", I don't mean wiped off the face of the Earth. I'm referring to the territory being either uninhabitable or in possession of another country. For the sake of ease, use your surname to determine your origin. No need to go back further, otherwise we'll all be saying Ethiopia.

A large portion of my family are from West Prussia, which has been part of Poland for a while now. My ancestral homeland in Scotland was apparently flooded and is now a lake (because they kept picking fights with the English and their allies - I can't verify it, that's just what my Scottish grandma told me). That's what made me think of this...
