My initial impression is that it's okay. I really really like the environment design and overall art direction. It looks like somebody made a game out of John Harris or Peter Elson art. Not a fan of the UI though. It looks a little TOO simplistic, and at the same time it feels clunky. As for gameplay, I really like the gunplay. Everything I've used so far feels good to use. But melee attacks feel op. Like, sometimes, I don't even need to shoot, I just roll around and punch, and can get through an entire firefight with barely shooting or not shooting at all. The game in general is a bit too easy. So I'm level 11, and my power level is about 125 or so, and the last story mission I did was level 7, and half that power level, so I just tore through everything. And I'm really not trying to level up or get gear, the game is just drowning me in loot and opportunities for exp. The game balance in general seems poor so far. As for the characters, I can't remember what anyone's name is, or what anyone looks like, and I kinda feel detached from the story. idk, it's hard to explain. It feels like what I'm doing in story missions is completely removed from the cutscenes and overall narrative.

Tl;dr: The art direction is the best part, the game looks great all around. The gunplay is good, but everything else seems half-assed. It's passable though, I'll keep playing, see if I can't do some end-game content, see what that's like.

Haven't completed the story yet, but I heard if I talk to the RMT npc she'll give me an engram that has a low chance of a mount. So I did, and lo and behold it had a legendary mount inside. =D

played the 1st one. hit endgame before there was a real endgame.

where it went wrong:
paid dlc to make it like a rpg/mmo, (like it was supposed to be from the start).

focus on pvp, in a game that wasn't meant to be a pvp focused game.

powers being nerfed in pvp, making it more weapon-based.

having a sword mission, where they clearly put a lot of effort into that fighting style - only to scrap it for just guns.

nerfing thorn after making it a pain in the ass to get (before raid gear). the poison aready couldn't kill people, no reason to nerf it...

shitty story changes:
no 4th race like there was supposed to be

shit plot change. it was supposed to be better. the bad guys were actually the "good" guys. the queens "brother" was actually a former soldier who had learned the truth, etc.

no way in hell i would pay to play destiny 2.

I've never played the 1st, but the 2nd one is fantastic. Everyone seems to hate it, but I think they're just looking for things to hate. It looks beautiful and flows wonderfully. I only ever have rare tiny complaints. But I love it.

I've beaten through the campaign with all 3 character types, and I love each one. Thy all have their own special abilities that make each fight unique and different

And raids are super fun. We should do raids sometime if we can get people together. Most of my friends left the game months ago, but a couple still play. I could get some together and play with you and whoever else on here wants to play.

You need 6 people for a raid though, and it's all about communicating and solving puzzles

I'd be down. I got it near launch, but haven't played in forever. Actually, I'm not sure if my PL is high enough for a raid.

you can get swords in the game. they go in your heavy slot. one of each element, then an exotic for each element that each have a unique r1 attack.

they nerfed it because it was entirely way too strong. the poison absolutely could, and did, kill people. thorn being nerfed needed to happen.

Really? PVP is the focus? Had a terrible experience in PVP. Kept getting spawn camped over and over in the same spot, by the same 2 guys for 5 minute straight, it was infuriatingly terrible.

yes, it really is.

especially in d2.

the changes they made to crucible in d2 are specifically for the esports scene. which failed, of course, because it's garbage. but bungie focus is on pvp since that's really all there is to do after a while.

It's not the focus. It's like 1/4 of the game. You don't even have to play it if you don't want to. Most of my friends don't even bother with it. PvE is the best and most polished part of Destiny 2. And the most fun.

everything is balanced for the crucible.

the weapon system being the way it is is for the crucible

the mods being trash is because they would have ruined the crucible

bungie will let glitches go months without fixing them, unless they effect the crucible, then they're fixed immediately.

the reason your abilities take 8 years to recharge is because of the crucible.

bungie bounties? crucible.

what videos does bungie promote on their website? exclusively crucible videos.

no, you don't have to bother with it if you don't want to, but bungies focus is pvp.

I've been replaying it on PC and I dunno. It's super smooth and the art and sound design are great. But it just feels off somehow. And there isn't anybody walking around that I can see.

Welp hit PL 260, did a few Strikes, did some Milestones, did some Crucible. I'm getting tons of 255 stuff, and very little 260+. Seems once you get to 250 or so progression slows to a crawl. Or maybe I just don't know what to do. I want to do Heroic Strikes and the Nightfall, but it says I should be 270. Does it really matter?

if you don't have the DLC, then yes, you hit the softcap. at this point you need milestones and raid gear to go higher.

and nah, i'd wager you'd be able to do the nightfall just fine, provided you have at least one other person with you who is at, or above, the light requirement.

I don't really get the point of Heroic Strikes. They're tedious and time consuming, and they don't really drop upgrades. This is one of the weirdest looters I've ever played.

So I'm actually liking Crucible more that I play it. I think the problem I had before was I was playing FFA, and it seems teams is the way to go. I don't die 2 seconds after I spawn in 4v4, and I'm actually winning games.

Edit: Oh, but finding and queuing into games takes FOREVER.

I feel like they're trying to get me to buy the DLC, 2 of the weekly challenges I have, as well as maps Cayde-6 is selling require Warmind, despite me not owning Warmind. That's a biiiit scummy. It should just give me challenges and items for content I can actually do. =/

it's been like this since D1.

people with the dlc will always be treated better, and weekly things will rotate to DLC only stuff. this way you don't have two different weekly things, which can be exploited based on past events.

There was a week when this crazy laser gun came out and it was glitched to hell so they gave it to everyone before they nerfed it.
Crucible was a clusterfuck but it was probably the most fun I've had with the game.

See, the difference is I'm bad at FPS games now so making people rage quit because I shot first was super fun. Matches also didn't last as long so drops were more efficient and it was easier to play a quick game in 5 mins.

So I've kinda figured out that outside of PvP and doing weeklies, going to a planet, and grinding out public events is kinda the thing to do to gear up. They way I see it, it gets me gear from enemy drops, from completing the events, then from handing in the tokens, and also breaking down the stuff I won't use and handing in THOSE tokens. And I get exp towards luminary engrams or whatever the hell they're called. Am I doing it right?
