More like her 'son' is actually a clone of his own father, who used mind control to coerce Carol into marrying him, and then impregnated her with a clone of himself, who then rapidly ages to adulthood shortly after birth. All because super villain Kang the conqueror couldn't survive in the setting with his original body. This all culminated in the infamous "Rape of Ms. Marvel" media scandal, and eventually resolved after a bit of editorial flailing by Marvel with Carol leaving the Avengers and then getting attacked by (the super villain) Rogue and put in a coma.
