While all the other genres shoot for disgustingly long playtimes.

I spent over 100 hours apiece on the last few Metal Gear games, for example.

I mean, when some RPGs are 100+ hours long, you want them to aim for higher?

Some suffer from being so long.

I love RPGs, but I don't really have much time to play them anymore.

Absolutely not.

I just think it's interesting that it's becoming an average-length genre.

FF1 can be beaten in about an hour

And GT4 is listed at over 400 hours on howlongtobeat.com. There are always going to be exceptions.

The more content, the more you're playing that game instead of something else. The best money games are drawn out multi-player games and very shory playtime single player campaign games

The only games I've spent that many hours on were the Halo series, the Witcher 3, and Dragon Age: Origins.

Yeah, no. Average length game is probably 20 hours.

RPGs, specifically JRPGs, are prohibitively long that they turn off the majority of the gaming populace.

Getting S ranks is a massive time sink. In Peace Walker, because the bosses have gazillions of HP and dozens of troops thst you have to tranq and fulton to avoid losing the S Rank, and in Rising because it takes so many tries on lots of the battles.

My longest skyrim play through, beating everything was a little over a hundred hours, but I have well over 1000.

Fallout new Vegas was around 400, with all the DLC added

Oblivion was over 1000,

Witcher 3 was around 150 with all dlc

Fallout 4 maybe 200, but I got bored real quick.

Fallout 3 around 900 hours total

Lost count for how many hours I've spent in morrowind

These are just the big RPGs for me, I don't play too many JRPGs, and for the games above I did screw around a lot so that kills time, also I don't ever want to invest that amount time into another game anymore.

But I did just start playing XenoBlade Chronicles X and that already feels well over 200 hours and I'm enjoying the designs for the world more than pretty much every title above, which is something to me. Writing leaves a little more to be desired.

Also TC I think I have about 100 hours in the First MGS, beaten around ten times at this point, and it is a short game. MGSV was about 100, 150 for me.

This is true and sad since I enjoy RPG's. cRPG's are the "worst" offenders in this regard. Normally they are successful but with a niche audience. Original Sin 2 broke through but that's a rarity.

I've seen them go from 30~45 on SNES/PS1 to 80+ on PS3/4
