I'm curious to know what the doctor was thinking. There's making mistakes under pressure, and then there's just being wildly and inexplicably incompetent.

Baby decapitations happen during birth. It's rare but it happens. I did read that one child had an internal decapitation (head still attached but inside spine and muscle detached). I think it lived. I'll see if I can find the article.

Why the hell would anything think that was a good idea? Pulling on the baby's legs whilst the mother pushes?!?!

The baby had a number of issues that should have meant instant c-section. If I had to guess the prolapsed cord is what decapitated the baby.

You do realize youre sectioning a patient for a fetus with a less than 50% survival rate with the best medical intervention. They didnt mention how the strip looked or any of the other info. She definitely practiced outside of the standard of care but sectioning a 25 weeker is not without significant risks.

Of course there are risks. But I'd take my chances on a controlled surgery than pulling on a fragile infant's body while the woman is contracting and squeezing the baby out.

I dont think the child survives either way without a tremendous amount of luck. But you wouldn't have a childs head separated from its body either.

Are you arguing with me about it? I ask cause you seem like youre agreeing and disagreeing at the same time. Breech and prolapsed cord is instant c-section. Being a major preemie just tops it off.

Basically, whats the argument? She cant be reliably induced and her labor would most likely guarantee the death of the baby. Reaching in her uterus and yanking the baby out definitely is not the other option. C-section is the best chance for both to survive, particularly the baby in this situation.

The baby was found to have a prolapsed cord and was also in the breech position.
I immediately thought "Cesarean section", form my medical experience from watching TV.

Despite those complications and the womans cervix only being two to three centimetres dilated, Dr Laxman insisted on a vaginal delivery.
[...]
The child was decapitated when Dr Laxman told the patient to push while she pulled his legs at the same time, which caused the babys body to detach, leaving the head inside the mothers womb.

The woman later had a C-section to remove the head,
Should have done that from the get-go, and they would have removed a whole baby...
