club setting?

We are both young'ns in the scene, 21 year olds so we tend to be the youngest ones in those settings which can make it hard to relate to others. People say "Oh its easy for black people" but in the 3 times we have gone out to various clubs, I just find it hard to approach girls, and if I do engage in convo, its one-sided and dies as soon as they reply with some one/two-word answer. How do people get good at this?
