Sign up for a special interest class or something. There's that site/app that lets people organize hang-outs for various activities, that could be cool (like if you wanted to just go out hiking you could go hiking with people and meet them that way).
Putting yourself in social situations is just the best way to meet people imo. But you have to want it. Also you have to answer the question of why you want friends in the first place and what you would want to do with those friends, as weird as that sounds. --- RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC / 94/99 Fishing. ... Is there any one at work you want to hang out with?
You don't even necessarily need a hobby, maybe you could just go out with someone to get a pedicure for an hour or something. --- RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC / 94/99 Fishing. ... Copied to Clipboard!

alright
when you are a child, your mommy sets you up on playdates, you hang out with your pals at school, you toss around a frisbee outside of the quad, etc. and, as we all know, friendship is over at age 27. so what do you do from ages 21 - 26, when you are out in the world, not institutionalized, not yet a friendless 27 year old but extremely aware that this is the inevitable fate of all functional adults? this is where the concept of "fading" a friendship comes in. essentially what you will do from ages 21 - 26 is establish bullshit, illusory "friendships" with people, designed to be de-escalated at age 27 and basically a stranger relationship by 30. the point of these friendships is to give you stories to fall back on mentally when you're doing your hour and a half commute back from work to your sexless marriage and house that has a mortgage you're upside down on. I think if you go into your young adult friendships with the idea of fading them as quickly as possible, it makes social interactions easier. Here's how it works: you meet a person doing an "approved" (more on that later) activity, you invite them out to a microbrewery (acceptable adult interaction spot), and you schedule these microbrewery trips further and further into the future until you essentially have cut off all contact with this friend and can focus on commuting to work and your "couples friends." I know what you are thinking; what kind of "approved" activities are there for adults that arent fucking weirdos? Well, this is where the Hobby Gradient comes in. For functional adults, ages 21 - 26, here are some examples of approved hobbies: 1. riding your bike on public roads like you're a car and holding up traffic 2. ordering flights of beers at microbreweries and pretending like there are minute differences in beer 3. changing your car's oil in the driveway 4. building up non-functional strength at the gym what is interesting about these hobbies is that are naturally designed to fade away as your control on life fades further into adulthood. they are not sustainable and that is why i say they are kind of on that "gradient" so to speak. what are you going to, ride you fucking bike at age 45 when you arthritis in both knees? are you going to still be drinking when you're 50 and each beer you have adds 10lbs to your gut? meanwhile, there are other hobbies that do not naturally degrade, they just get stronger the more you do them. this is what you need to avoid, because it's all weird nerd shit like painting warhammer 40k miniatures. this will not provide you any benefits as you enter into what is "real" adulthood and will just connect you with more and more manchildren that will stunt your career and growth. tl;dr - your goals from ages 21 - 26 should be on establishing temporary friendships designed to fade when you hit 27. if at any point you find yourself painting a Warhammer 40k Dark Elf statue you purchased for $250, stop immediately and re-read my post. --- ...
