Shit like that is only for young people in school or people with no lives.

Dark Cloud made it so it wasn't too cumbersome.

Morrowind made it more immersive as I recall and forced you to think about versatility until you got more powerful loot.

Fallout 3 was only bad in that they degraded too quickly and wouldn't stay at Max damage beyond the first few shots. But overall, not atrocious.

But mostly, it's an annoying feature that only belongs as an optional feature letting you determine how big of a timesink you want.

That game was savage. For those who don't know you don't (really) level up your characters, you level up your weapon. If your weapon breaks... that's it. You could've spent the whole game leveling it, and all it takes is one moment of not paying attention, and... poof.

As I recall, the game made the warning really obvious. If you miss it...I mean...

Maybe I should replay it. I've finished it numerous times and was fairly satisfied each time.

Fire Emblem Fates ruined the experience by getting rid of it, SoV could have been better with it.
I like that breaking weapons gave you critical hits in Zelda.
The only time weapons break in Alliance Alive is basically Limit Breaks, making them more strategic; the weapon is easily/freely fixed but you gotta finish the dungeon without it.

That all said, I typically hate durability, especially for rare weapons and when it clutters up a limited inventory system with extras.

Only thing I can think of is true roguelikes where losing one weapon may force you to try a different kind of weapon and learn a different strategy.

Certain monsters deal like 5 or 6 damage of durability per hit, meaning the warning can start in the middle of a combo and break almost instantly. Like I said, all it takes is a moment of not paying attention.

7 days to die

I'm not a big fan of the zombie genre, but every time you built a weapon or tool it was sturdier than the previous one. So when it degraded you could scrap it for materials to build a new and better one.

I tried 6 times to make it through the first dungeon and never could, my weapons always broke and I'd be several floors down so I couldn't just grind and hope for another one to drop

I didn't know that was a thing, I never bothered to try again and will never try again.

But at least they ended up making rogue galaxy so that's something
