But I mean

Relatability is the last quality a superhero should have. It defeats the purpose of the superhero concept.

You identify with Clark Kent, the humble quiet guy nobody pays attention to, and learn that even you can become a superman.

Hey guess what Mr. Humble Quiet. Even you can be... you.

he's pretty relatable in American Alien, but tbf, that miniseries focuses on his formative years as Clark Kent that led him towards becoming Superman

I can totally relate to Batman.

You know, the neurotic man who cant let go of his obsessions and is eternally plagued by the existential dread caused by a life of constant failures, always wondering if he's made the right decision or if his actions just made everything worse. The kind of neuroses that cause you to isolate yourself and keep everyone who might care about you at a distance.

That and being a CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation and a master of martial arts with a bod that would make Prime Schwarzenegger jealous. Thats totally me.

Superman though is lame. He just looks at life with hopeful optimism and tries to believe in the innate goodness all humans are capable of if they try. Like, who can relate to that in 2018?

I don't necessarily agree.

By relatable they don't mean that he is your equal or that you guys have a similar story. It means that he is simply too perfect.

Spiderman is young and dorky. Batman had psychological issues and no powers. Wolverine has a dark past, he is a mess, and he is a good guy inside a tough and rough exterior shell.

Supes is... perfect. That makes him unidimensional. Having said that, they have improved the character. He is literally an illegal alien... and he doesn't quite feel human, but he doesn't feel alien either.

Superman is relatable. A lot of people feel like outcasts who have to hide things about themselves.

The best stories about Superman involve him having to come to grips with the fact that some people just won't ever try to be as good a person as his human self.

Clark Kent by all accounts is just some decent human being doing decent human being stuff. Yeah, in some comics he's an award winning journalist, but often times he's more a rank and file guy compared with Lois.

That is perfectly fine for him. He is happy with that life. I don't think he would lose any sleep if he never HAD to "be" Superman another day in his life, beyond maybe helping with natural disasters and stuff.

Clark having to come to terms with the fact that human beings can be low down despicable, when he has the power to basically extinguish life on the planet if he felt so inclined, tells a lot about Clark/Superman as a person. It can be done wonderfully.

Hes literally the most powerful he's been outside of omnipotent interpretations and its still a super interesting read.

Really kills the "but overpowered" argument. Though tbh I preferred the animate movie since it flows better, but I guess it wasnt originally intended to be read in one sitting. Reads a lot better as a continuing saga.

Superman is so boring and invincible. Not like Batman who doesn't have super powers, but can get out of any bad situation every time due to his super intelligence, knowledge of every martial art invented, super detective skills, and hi-tech gadgets.

I don't understand. Are amorphous blobs the only characters that aren't relatable or something?
