Probably don't know any women, or have any girls as meaningful friends as kids.

Wow what's wrong with being friends as kids

didn't you watch Stranger Things. They were losers before they met girls

I don't get the rage about girls being allowed in the Scouts. Are they scared of girls learning some rudimentary survival skills? Or are they infantile enough to be scared their boys will become girly through exposure?

Anyway, I sort of get the Girl Scouts concern, though. Female empowerment is a big part of their mission statement, so this might bury them and it makes merging difficult.

I don't see why girl groups/organizations can exclude boys and that's fine, nobody bats an eye. But having a "guys only" space is somehow like a crime against humanity. Gets labelled toxic masculinity, etc.

What if little Billy wants to sell cookies and learn how to sew and craft? (admittedly, I have no idea what Girl Scouts actually do lol).

Eagle Scout here. Also the majority of my friends in school were girls; Boy Scouts were where I had most of my guy friends

Anyway Im okay with the idea of girls learning the skills and getting to participate in The sort of cool trips and activities we did in my troop

The issue I have with it though, and a lot of people dont understand because they didnt stick with scouts, is that it lasts from age 12 to 17aka prime puberty years

As a socially awkward and shy teenager I give a lot of credit to Scouting for helping me break out of my shell, and the leadership roles I took on for helping me get over fear of public speaking . I dont think that would have happened if I had to also consider what girls might be thinking of me.

And for what its worth there was already a scouting program that included girls: venture scouts

I just question how many people who are so worried about the Boy Scouts accepting girls actually spent any significant time in Boy Scouts.

I spent 12 years in it. I have literally zero issue with Boy Scouts adding girls. Especially when the alternative is to fade away into bankruptcy. Guess what that also would get rid of a "male only space".

The decision to add girls was a free-market economic one. There were no serious calls for Boy Scouts to add girls. But they needed increase members (and money) and opening it up to the other half of the population was the best way to do that.

I asked this in the last thread and got no replies but I'm curious to hear from you guys are who are disappointed about girls joining Boy Scouts. How would you keep Boy Scouts open given their consistently decreasing membership numbers?

Because every space is/was a male only space for the better part of our existence? Or maybe the fact that he thinks Girl Scouts are entirely just Home Ec.

If you can't understand that the girl's only organizations are reactionary and the male only organizations are promoting an unfair status quo, I'm not really sure how else to explain it to you. Like, if the entirety of history had men and women treated equally and every child born today was given 100% equal opportunity regardless of gender, sure, it would be sexist to create girl's only groups. Unfortunately, you'd have to be willfully naive to believe that is how the world works.

But nobody has said this. The only thing that made the Boy Scouts add girls is economic feasibility. The fact that every kid has a smart phone that they couldn't imagine parting with for a weekend campout forced this change far more than any social pressure would.

Stop requiring religion as part of the program

It'd probably help, but I'm not sure it'd get back the 1.5 million members they have lost since peak membership. I'm just not sure the atheist teen outdoors-man is that big a market. It'd also probably run into issues where troops are often substantially supported by churches so the gained membership revenue might be offset.
