I can only use the microwave lmao

I mainly eat frozen meals, or eat out 6-7 days a week! I don't think I've ever cooked a meal in my entire life :D

Why not? It's not difficult. I eat grilled meat almost every day and it's the easiest thing ever to make

Its really not that difficult. People always say things like I cant cook at all...no one is saying you need to be Gordon Ramsey but adding some seasoning to something and frying it in a pan is fairly simple.

This.

If you can't cook you aren't even a properly functioning adult.

It's too difficult for me personally. I'd burn my house down. I usually eat processed foods and fast foods or get food from work lmao

following recipes is generally pretty easy. its when you get into baking that it gets tough and easy to 'screw up'

Depends on the meat but it all boils down to just putting it on the grill for X amount of minutes, flip it, wait another X minutes then take it off

Ahh ok, I always get confused if I have to add ingredients. I'm gonna try putting a piece of chicken on a pan. How many minutes to grill, flip and to take it off?

Or just bake chicken if that's too hard. One of my lazy meals is just chicken breast or drumstick slathered with a sweet bbq sauce (newman's own usually). Bake it for 40 min in the oven and make some rice and steam some veggies. Then I use the cooked bbq sauce on top of the rice and it tastes great. It's super simple too.

I'm usually bad at following recipes and always, always buy the wrong ingredients or can't find them.

Are there "easy mode" recipes that someone who never cooked in their life can use?

I have never done stuff like turned on an oven, put stuff in the bottom drawer, used oil, chopped stuff, etc.

Ahh that sounds good.

Questions:

1) So, what do you mean by slather? Do I pour a LOT or a little? Do I need to flip it over and put it back in the oven after 40 minutes and put it again or is it done for then.

2) How do I make the rice? What tools do you use? How much BBQ sauce do you put? Do you pour it on while it's sizzling or after you take the rice out of the oven.

3) How do I steam veggies? What types and what tools to use

Read a recipe
Write down ingredients
Go to store with said list and purchase ingredients. If in doubt, ask for help finding things.
Follow instructions

Or just watch videos on YouTube if you are a visual learner.

1. I usually cook 12 drumsticks or 4-5 breasts and use a third of a bottle. Slather it on before it goes in the oven. Heat the oven to 375F. Once oven is up to temp put the chicken in and let it cook for 40 min.

I should also mention I do this in a casserole dish with a lid to keep the moisture in.

2. You can buy a rice cooker or just use a small pot on the stove. General rule of thumb is 2 cups of water per cup of rice. Heat it to a rolling boil and then turn it down to low and put a lid on it. It takes about 12-15 min to cook 1 cup of rice and that will last you probably 3 or 4 meals.

3. Buy a pot and a steamer insert (looks like a pot with holes in the bottom). Fill bottom half full of water and stick veggies in top half. Let it boil for however long it takes for the veggies to cook. They should be soft enough to poke thru with a fork.

when i was little my dad had me help him cook in the kitchen. so i learned how to cut, mince, etc.

thats really all you need to know. everything else is experience (like knowing how not to burn things) and how to follow a recipe.

i once knew a dude who was 22 years old and didn't know how to open a can with a can opener. i was dumbfounded. how does this happen

I have like 1 box with 12 hot pockets in right now. They are so good!

Why? Because if I don't NEED a can opener, I don't bother to learn to use one.

I eat a lot of Chef Boyardee that has canned food, that you don't need a can opener to open!

Don't worry it's not hard. Most of it is just lack of confidence around the kitchen or with different tools.

I only ever cooked frozen stuff til I bought my place at 25. Managed to learn to feed myself slowly but surely. Started by buying canned corn or frozen peas and then eventually worked my way to steaming fresh veggies. I started cooking chicken one way and then eventually branched out into other ways and cooking pork and beef as well.

A really good throw it all together meal for dealing with leftover meat is fried rice. Basically it's just rice, soy sauce, some scrambled egg, frozen mixed veggies and leftover meat. It makes like 8 or 9 meals too.

How did you end up age 35 without opening a can?

It sounds like you're actually interested in learning some cooking, which is a great idea. I find it kind of boring alone, but lots of fun with my wife. You could probably find a lot of basic skills by searching on youtube for "cooking for beginners" or something. Alternatively, the early episodes of the TV show "Good Eats" have a good run-down of the whole process - including knowing what to buy at the shop - and keep to a pretty narrow scope.

Personal favourites for recipe/cookalong shows:
- Gordon Ramsay's Ultimate Cookery Course
- Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals
I think both can be found on Dailymotion or other video sites. Good to show you why cooking can be interesting.

I'll be happy to explain anything I can if you really do want to make an attempt to learn. I'm no chef, but in 5 years I've gone from eating chicken strips and fries to making all sorts of home cooked meals for my family.

I found when I started cooking that I learned best by a friend or family member cooking it with me and showing me how to do things I wasn't sure of.

My fiance usually does the prep work and I cook it all. I used to find recipes intimidated me because I needed so many ingredients and I didn't know if I could put it all together. Now that I have the right tools and a decent spice and condiment selection, I can easily follow recipes.

Good dishes for complete beginners that allow you to focus on not learning too many things at once include:

- Scrambled eggs
- Pizza (initially with pre-made base and sauce)
- Chilli con carne (do it all in 1 pot)
