*Comicbook superhero movies

All we had was Batman & Robin and that's it, I think. But seriously, they mostly sucked.

Ninja Turtes ruled.

But Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman Returns, those all sucked.

It might be more accurate to say it was a bad decade for Batman movies tbh.

All great movies.

"Worst" might not be the best word because I can't think of anything in any other decade that is better other than the more recent ones. I mean were the 70s or 80s any better than the 90s?

Yes. Many were churned out just because they had to. Movies like Fantastic Four, Cap America and Nick Fury which were all ether made for TV or too crappy for theaters. T hen there was Steel.

Not to say they were all bad, Blade was better then expected.

I loved the first one as a kid. But as I got older, it became more of a dumb, funny corny film when I realized how bad (so bad it's good) it actually was.
Didn't care about the other two once. I've only seen the third one once ever.

Yeah, I've never actually seen it so I wasn't sure how it was.

Anyways, 70's and 80's were pretty awful too, but it was more TV than straight film

It's kinda like saying "Man, the sixties were a bad decade for work safety" because OSHA was created in the 70s.

Yeah, the 00s are when we started getting the really good superhero movies, but saying the 90s were the worst is ignoring how absolute shit superhero movies were in the 80s going back, basically apart from Superman and Batman.

Not really. I'm sure those decades had their share of shitty superhero movies but the 90s definitely tried to cash in harder on comicbook films and lo and behold, almost all of them sucked.

90s DC was amazing. Jurgens Superman, Morrison JLA, Waid Flash, Kingdom Come.

Also Vertigo got started in the 90s.

Some good Alan Moore and Frank Miller stuff too.

People rag on the 90s edge but there was a lot more too it than that. People just remember the worst because the lows were REALLY low.

Good tiering. Batman Begins is the best although I dunno if I'd personally call it awesome. The other Nolan films are competent and decent but nothing to rave over.

Batman and Batman Returns are just bad, and this isn't coming from someone born post-2000 who just saw them for the first time, I was there when they came out and I never understood what people liked about them at the time. >_> The 90's Batman films are also bad but they're at least stupid fun. Those first two just aren't really enjoyable.

My buddies and I watched Mystery Men in high school all the time, it was basically the best "super hero" film out there and was legit really funny (to be fair, haven't seen it in ages, so I have no idea if I'd still think that).

I crapped all over the Burton films in my last post but I do agree they did have the best Batmobile and arguable best "Batman Theme".

Plus props to those movies that somehow from that mess inspired the Batman animated series.

While the MCU is more serious than Batman & Robin, I definitely dig that they don't usually take things TOO seriously, because, yeah, its a comic book. Like all the whining that Thor should've been more serious about the events in Thor: Ragnarok. Nah, lets just have a big fun stupid movie that's entertaining. Why should such a silly premise as most comic book films be done "dark and gritty and serious"?

Indeed. And yet people loved those shitty Dark Knight flicks. It's like some people don't even like movies.

The greatest comic book movie tragedy is that we never got a Lego Batman '66 film.

The MCU found a perfect middle ground for me in terms of what I like to see in comicbook movies. They can be fun, cheesy, colorful, larger than life superhero movies but they know when to pull back and be serious when they have to

I have so much respect for Kevin Feige. Most people have a hard time pulling projects like this off but the reason he made it work is because the man clearly grew up with this stuff and is an actual fan of the source material, but also, he knows how to make good movies in general.
