And yet somehow, I was able to Play through Red Dead Redemption to the end. I don't know why, but when I tried to Play GTA 3, 4 and 5 (I never touched Vice City or San Andreas) I actually start to get invested in them. And then at some point (Usually by the time I reach the second island or whatever have you) I suddenly lose interest. Red Dead Redemption was the only game of Rockstar's I was able to beat. Even when I wasn't doing the main story, I loved playing Poker, hunting wild animals, capturing bounties... it never felt boring. I wanted to see the story to the end.

And yet, for the 3D GTA games... I just lose interest. I never understood why that is. I know the games are fun and well designed and funny as heck, but... I could never fully invest in them all the way to the end...

i think the cars are the culprit here, a lot of ppl just cannot get into driving games whatsoever and that is a large component of GTA.

Some of the missions are stupid and is a turn off.

I'm not really sure if Vice City and San Andreas would've did much to help me stay invested...

Zero's Missions.

I always thought it was strange San Andreas went from early 90s gangster shit to running people over with a combine harvester in the backwoods guess you cant say the game didnt have range.

That's a shame, Vice City and San Andreas are two of my favorite PS2 games. I can still spend a whole day playing either one.

Zero's missions are really rough but much much better in the current PC version. The RC plane mission was fixed to expend fuel at a much lower rate so it isn't so painfully difficult.

Vice City and San Andreas are better games then GTA 3 and 4, GTA 5 is the closest to San Andreas but its still not quite as amazing.

The only up side to that mission was that when you inevitably failed at least you started next to the mission marker.

Vice City had property you could buy and do missions for, San Andreas had character stats and customization, territory wars with other gangs, girlfriends, casinos, etc. They also had the two best soundtracks in the series.

Same thing. RDR is one of my favorite games but I can't get into any GTA games. Although I easily finished Saints Row 2 so maybe that game or series will work for you too.

You kind of have to invest in the modern day story if you plan to stay interested in the series. Otherwise, it's just a history-themed open world game with occasional story scenes that make no sense.

I've been getting into the series the last couple of years and honestly the story would be so much better without all that modern day shit. The Assassins/Templars lore works perfectly well without it.
