And I know that not everybody who appropriates the culture is going to suddenly be enlightened and accepting/friendly to the people whose culture they're indulging in. To follow from that example, I'm sure there were many people who never repudiated their racist views, but who still enjoyed rock and roll or jazz. "Stay away from my water fountain, you filthy [pejorative]" while simultaneously getting to enjoy the best parts of what they did. It's messed up.
