For a long time she talked about actually going to get some sort of medical certification which I thought was a good idea. I forget in what though.

I didn't finish college and I have a pretty decent job, I'm certainly making more than most of my peers and I'm still at the college age(22)

We need to stop this meme tho that you can only live a decent life if you go to college, experience is really what matters in this day and age unless it's a hugely specialized job like system admin or accountant

There's only so many jobs (restaurant or construction namely) you can make a decent living in without a college degree or trade school. The whole "what you want in life" thing is bullshit, delaying time you'll be wasting money dicking around and figuring out that construction or serving at a good restaurant pays alright not not enough to raise a family and you don't want to still be doing it when you're 40. A high schooler can figure that out.

Let's not get into how many people change their major. You won't even get a taste at accounting, economics, science, engineering, etc with a high school diploma and figure out "oh damn... actually that doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy 40+ hrs a week for the next 30 years." Again, but you know you don't want to be a server, cook or construction worker for $10-$18/hr when you're 40.

Wanna be an independent student so bad? You don't have to wait till 26 (majority of college grads at that age are doing far better than delaying college for 8 years working for $10/hr would've earned you) instead, being disowned (legally, just being 18 won't cut it in Uncle Sam's eyes), or having your parents divorced/seperated or simply growing up poor will get you plenty of financial aid.

So where's the advantage to waiting again? Please tell. Also curious what your degree is in.

Getting your degree at 40 is sometimes a good idea compared to not getting it at all, but is almost always worse than getting your degree while you are younger.

Non-traditional students tend to take much longer to complete degrees, have to take more remedial courses, and have a harder time getting more than just the diploma out of attending.

For a lot of people it might be better. Example: someone who went to college and got into debt, and is working at Starbucks now.

Again talking on topics you have no hands on experience with. Working at Starbucks before or after college is minuscule. Difference is working there after college you didn't waste anytime and are actually eligible and can apply for jobs that pay well. No college side is hope to be Manager and that whatever fast food service industry company your at pays their managers ~40-50k and not $20k.

A tidbit I just found out was that the job she just quit was going to pay for her to go take courses to get some sort of medical training (she worked at a hospital)

But she decided she didn't like medical stuff so she just quit.

Lol goddamn. This stuff brings me joy. I enjoy CE as it's my window to the world of what could be and when I think of "what if's" I see things like this and realize troubles and trials in my own life were not the result of my own stupid choices.

Free medical training... that's required... in a job that is recession proof and and in industry where people do buy that service regardless of whether they can afford it or not.
