They obviously don't want to live in rural areas, but they also don't want to live in suburbs.

Well for starters, a lot of cities don't have proper suburbs.
Secondly, millennials are less likely to have good cars that can survive a long commute on a regular basis. I lived in Toronto and LA for several years. I have experience with big cities.
I can't fucking stand them. The smell, the crowds, the apartments, the crazy people. I like being near everything and there's something fun about the energy of being in a place so big and where something is always happening. I lived in LA for a while and am over it. Now I commute into DC from Virginia. LA was expensive enough on its' own, but add on top of that the fact that the leftist government made me pay everybody else's bills while I'm trying to raise my own family.
