They obviously don't want to live in rural areas, but they also don't want to live in suburbs.

For the suburbs, I'm guessing it's because the cost of living is a lot more than in the cities themselves. But they are making the cost of living in cities increase!

Well for starters, a lot of cities don't have proper suburbs.

Secondly, millennials are less likely to have good cars that can survive a long commute on a regular basis.

And thirdly, it's better to be downtown if you can afford it.

I don't have any real disdain for hicks and other inhabitants of rural areas - I come from that background myself - but I don't like having to drive everywhere.

I lived in Toronto and LA for several years. I have experience with big cities.

I can't fucking stand them. The smell, the crowds, the apartments, the crazy people.

I like being near everything and there's something fun about the energy of being in a place so big and where something is always happening.

Neverless moving back to the small city I grew up in, and getting a place in the country is a VAST improvement.

I live in what I consider to be a rural area and I'm like a 5 minute drive from town.

You can have a rural environment without living in miles of empty land isolated from everyone else.

It's a good point. I don't think I could live outside of OKC. Hell, outside of Central OKC. The lack of cultural diversity outside central OKC would leave me feeling very bored, and largely erased by the electoral politics in the districts outside of the city.

No, that's pretty much true in all cities, when compared to rural areas. Being gay and alone in the midwest is an agony of gaslighting, and random homophobia from people who don't realize they know actual gay people. One moment you're sharing greetings on the street, and the next you're listening to some joke about how 'swishy' something is, and you don't say anything because they're your neighbors, and most people around you are just like them. You want to find the community, you go to where people gather.

But you have the option if you want it. Most people's days are quite routine, but those who want to go out for change of pace can do it a lot easier when everything is five to ten minutes away, instead of an hour away by car.

I lived in LA for a while and am over it. Now I commute into DC from Virginia. LA was expensive enough on its' own, but add on top of that the fact that the leftist government made me pay everybody else's bills while I'm trying to raise my own family.
