Just applied as hispanic for an MBA. My parents are WASPs but since I was born in mexico and lived there until 12. Since my parents worked at the american embasy in mexico.... My school councelor told me to apply as hispanic

What? That wouldn't make you hispanic, but it could make you Mexican, depending on where you were born.

Actually it does. There are white and black mexicans too. Just like we anglos hispanic are diverse. The only diference is that the majority of anglos are whites from European ancestry and in mexico whites are a minority while the majority are brown people of native american ancestry or mixed brown and white

Hispanic just means that you have Spanish descent, but we usually use it to mean that you also have native ancestry. I'm both Latin and Hispanic in that I have Spanish and Roman ancestry, but I'd never use those words to describe myself. It would be a little strange. I'm just white. I happen to speak Spanish, but that's circumstantial. I have no Central or South American cultural identity, which is really much more how we use those words.
