Need a new one and this seems like a pretty Good sale, but would that be worth it? Or could I find a better one at a similar price? Dont know much about laptops tbh but needed a new one and this was the first to catch my eye

It's the 3GB model of the 1060, a bit limited for playing.

Tye rest is decent for the price. I would add a SSD sometime in the future.

It'd be mostly for school but games would be a nice bonus, does it play most modern games on at least average settings? And I could easily add more RAM if I wanted right?

Yes, though at 1080p you may have trouble keeping 60 fps. At 720p, sure.

RAMwise you're good.

Actually, would this be a better deal? Are the better specs worth the price increase?

1st laptop is much better if you want to play games, 2nd is much weaker(its an ultraportable laptop)

the 1st laptop will run basically any game out there at 1080p/"average settings"/60FPS just fine. A 3GB 1060 is still plenty of power for that goal.

Reviews mention bad battery life(3-4hrs of normal use) tho so keep that in mind since you're buying it for school too. Might want to go buy one of the older Dell Inspiron Gaming laptops(Inspiron 7567) if battery life is important to you.

Why is it worse if the specs are better? I'm completely new to PC gaming haha. Also, I'm assuming the battery life is longer if I'm not running games so it shouldn't be a huge issue for school right?

Also, this laptop is slightly more expensive than the first one, but would I be to better off getting it?

Sorry for all the questions but I appreciate the help!

The 2nd laptop has a low-power CPU and GPU. They're both weaker than the parts in the 1st laptop, but consume significantly less power(and output less heat). That allows the 2nd laptop to be thinner, lighter and offer better battery life. But you lose a lot of performance by prioritizing lower power consumption. And stuff like RAM and SSD size are secondary specs that don't directly impact performance in the same way as the CPU and GPU.

The first laptop will need an external fan or 2 or some really good cooling.

Ok, that makes a bunch of sense, thanks! I'd rather go with the first in that case.

It's better(specs wise) than the 1st one but the battery life is still pretty bad(according to reviews). If the battery life is irrelevant to you(and to be clear, "bad" is still like 3 hours of normal use) It's a nice laptop and you cant go wrong with it or the one in the OP.
