If they are so mad about going $240000 Im debt, why dont they simply not go and try to pick up a job that makes $10000 less per year. At that rate, it would take 24 years excluding interest to have the college grad match your wealth, and at that point, you could have invested your money to potentially double it.

College works for some, doesn't work for others. But yes, people should be better taught that they have options.

But you go into extreme poverty to get there. Why not go to a community college to get your degree?

I agree with this. Everyone is brainwashed into thinking that they have to go to college.

My college degree was $3000/semester. Don't go to a BS for-profit college.

In my field, the average non-degree-holder makes something like $30k. I make $480k.

This topic sucks.

Because you earn way more with a post-secondary education than with just a high school education. As for debt, go to a cheaper school. I paid off all my student loans within a year of graduating. Another tip is to live with your parents while going to school. Go to school to learn, not to attend adult daycare (a.k.a. "the college experience").

But I agree with the sentiment I guess. The majority of jobs would be better-served as an apprenticeship.

What.

College is to get a piece of paper as a check mark on your resume. It doesn't matter which college you even go to.

My college choices were 90% dictated by who offered the most money

I didn't pay a dime for school. Get a 33 or above on the ACT (I forgot the SAT reqs) and I know Alabama and Florida will throw money at you

Because they get bad advice. If I had to do it over again, I'd get a part time job and go a trade school instead.

Does your debt always have to be that much if you do go to college?

If you go to a state school tuition will only cost you 40k total. Most state schools are just fine and if you're lucky enough to live somewhere with great state schools (like Cali) you're set.

If you want to go private you'll have to pay something like 20-40k a year in tuition alone.

Except the gap between college and high school graduates is closer to 20k than it is 10k.

Nowhere near it tbh.

Also tc seems unaware of how much HS education pushes post secondary as the I Ly option. It's changing slowly but where the fuck have you been tc? Seriously buds.
