Was thinking of how 8 year old (Pretty sure ff7 was 97) me was scared shitless of Jenova in the tank, vividly remember yelling and nopeing out of the room. Closed my eyes on subsequent playthtoughs lol.

Fuck that dude so hard, not only was he terrifying when I was really young, but it took literal years to beat him. No problem beating any other bosses, just that fucking piece of shit Jack in the box.

I didn't even mean his actual boss fight music, I mean the music the leads into all the boss fights. I know it's supposed to build tension but at 5 years old I didn't know what "tension" was, only that walking onto the one lit square haunted me for almost three years of gaming. Beat Mario 64 and Banjo-Tooie long before I beat Mad fucking Jack.

Of course the rest of the bosses in the game are easy as shit, except K. Rool and Cardboard Cutout HA HA K Rool. Go figure.

Mad Jack was just a fuck. Still triggered by it to this day and it's been 20 years.

Creepy Castle was supposed to be corny I think. Sheet ghosts, the boss is a cardboard cutout that laughs like a fuckboy, half the level is just Lankey making fart noises with his balloon ability, etc.

Frantic Factory at 5 and six gave me nightmares.

It's how fast he moves. If you don't move diagonally, especially after he starts laser blasts, you're dicker dackered. And then of course he goes invisible.

See, I was thinking moving diagonally is what fucked me as a kid. I had the strategy guide that suggested that. I seem to remember the better strategy is just to move you and him between two different platforms, jumping off right before he got on.

Eternal Darkness.. I wouldn't say it scared be.. but it literally gave be nightmares. So I guess on a unconscious level it did scare me .

All the time. I was a real wuss back then. To name a few:

Star Voyager (Atari 2600) - the portal that you went through to go to the next level scared me, because if you didn't line it up properly and crashed into the side it would instantly kill you, and the space background would be a different color afterward.

Addition and Subtraction (TI-99/4A) - Really primitive educational software. There was this smiling sun that appeared when you got answers right that creeped me the hell out. I remember going out to play in the backyard once specifically because my dad was playing this and I didn't want to see that sun.

Beyond the Forbidden Forest (C64) - At least this one is completely justifiable.

NES in general - Any time a game would freeze or glitch up out of nowhere because of the poor pin connections. It didn't keep me from playing the system, but I wouldn't play it alone in the dark.
