I never got an allowance, just red pocket money from major events throughout the year.

I got like $20 for weekly chores, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, all that bullshit.

I was up to $80 for fully deep cleaning half of my house with my brother but we did such shitty jobs that my parents fired us.

I spent all my money almost exclusively on video games, I remember as a young teenager I would typically have about $300-$500 at any given time and I'd space out my purchases to buy what I wanted. My dad was Jewish so he did an excellent job of instilling frugality/cheapness in me.

Just like most things in my life, allowance was a complicated issue. For the very short time I was given an allowance for doing chores, it was $5 a week. I didn't learn until much later that it wasn't for my benefit that I was given an allowance, it was a cover for a much more sick/illegal situation my dad was creating. Once that was discovered and dealt with, the allowance stopped. However, my brother and I complained that it was unfair, so the allowance was condensed into a yearly birthday payment of $50(if they felt like it).

SNES, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, and PS2 (he bought the consoles, too). He also bought me an Alienware laptop which absolutely set my mom and her boyfriend off.

It didn't take me long past high school to realize how much money he had spent for me to have these things and I felt really guilty about it.

$3 a week for awhile, then only $10 a month. Then nothing for awhile, it was tough times. Then we did a $30 a month thing, but every time we got in trouble, or had to be asked a second time to do a chore, there was a $1 penalty.

By 4th grade we just didn't get allowance anymore. It amazes me that people got $20 a week, and really amazes me that people still got allowance in high school. I know most of you aren't much younger than me so it's not a generational or inflation thing.

LMAO imagine only liking your parents because they paid you.

Jesus fucking christ i think it's become obvious what's wrong with CE

My dad used to give me 100 pesos (according to google 100 dominican pesos are about 2 USD) for school every weekday, they were both for transportation and eating there but I didn't eat at school because the cafeteria line was too long, and go back home on foot so I'd keep all the money. So it would end up being about 10 USD a week (500 pesos).

None. When I had free time my friends and I would collect cans and bottles to recycle. We could probably fill a trash can every week, which was about $30 split amongst us.
