we got to the airport at about 8am for our 12pm flight. the line for the ticketing was hella long. but not for business! there was only one person to wait for lol.

the lady checked me in and told me where the STAR ALLIANCE LOUNGE is
https://www.loungebuddy.com/blog/star-alliance-lounge-los-angeles-inside-look/

it was AMAZING. lots of seats. free food (they had breakfast, so cereal, yogurt, sausage, ham, eggs, potatoes, toast, coffee, juice, milk, soda. ALL FREE. also they had beer, wine, and other spirits just out for you to take. no bartender unless you wanted a mixed cocktail. i decided to get full off the food. later on, sandwiches and salads came out but we left for our plane.

the gate was full of people going to korea. like a giant line had formed. but i walked right past them to the business line and was immediately boarded. i went up a fancy escalator and into the top level of the plane where i sat.

the seats looked like this:

except mine was directly next to my girlfriend's seat, and not alone.

after take off we got food, all these FANCY dishes that you see in FANCY restaurants. like cantaloupe wraped in Prosciutto. small tiny things you know? FANCY. the main course was korean though, bulgogi and lettuce for wrapping, rice, soup, lotus root, and of course kimchi. we had cheesecake for desert. the lady asked if i wanted some port wine after too.

then began my 12 hour flight. i said in another topic i tried to sleep but i couldn't. i was too excited. i tried watching movies. then i tried to sleep, adjusting my seat all the way back (it goes flat so you can sleep). when that didn't work i listened to podcasts. the flight attendant came and asked if we wanted food. i had a sandwich (it was warm!) and my gf had ramyun.

then we had another meal. and it was just as FANCY. the appetizers were shrimp things in some sauce.. i dont know CE it was FANCY. TOO FANCY FOR ME. i had chicken in some creamy mushroom sauce and veggies. for dessert we had a fruit tart. delightful!

all in all CE, i gotta say that for 10 bucks this was absolutely worth it. yes these tickets would have cost me 8000 dollars if i paid with cash, but i didn't pay cash so whatever. for 80k chase ultimate rewards points i got the experience of a lifetime.

it was my girlfriends first international flight so shes spoiled. we're flying economy back to the USA so she's in for a shock lol.

nah man, credit cards! the sign up bonuses get you CRAZY amounts of points.

it all started with the chase sapphire preferred. you get 50,000 points which are transferable to airlines, like united in my case. all you have to do is spend 3000 dollars within 3 months. it was easy for me to do since i just used my cards for all my purchases!

a ticket in business cost 80,000 united points one way. i transfered 80,000 points (which i earned with other chase cards) to united and paid 10 bucks in taxes and fees. BOOKING DONE.

the other parts of this journey are

5 star hotel - 42k SPG points i got with the SPG Credit Card from American Express
Korean Air economy back home 40k points each i tranfered from american express and chase (transfered to Airfrance, which is a partner with korean air.)

like i said, the value is incredible even without the sign up bonus. right now i have 40k chase points just from everyday spend. thats good for a one way ticket to korea, which is about 900-1000 dollars. normally you can get cash back from chase, at about 1% return. but with airline transfer, the return is 5-10%!
