I haven't even played the first one but I'm surprised no game appears to have done this before, with the exception of sort of Fallout 4.

I just want it to be more like the walking dead where if your character dies the rest of the group are actually affected as opposed to just moving on with their lives like nothing happened.

How did it work in the first game?

The first game was, well, it was kind of wonky, maybe a little buggy, had some performance issues, but it was pretty glorious despite the negatives.

The only thing it was really missing was multiplayer, which it was supposed to have and was obviously designed for. I guess last gen machines just didn't have the resources to handle that on top of everything else they were trying to squeeze out of it.

If you're asking specifically about the characters, the game wasn't really story heavy. Characters had their own personalities and backstories, but the focus was on survival. In that sense, when a character died your other survivors could be quite negatively impacted by their death in the sense that someone that had valuable skills is no longer around. I don't know if they'll expand on the storytelling with the new one.

The new one has mp confirmed.

How was the story in the first? and the cutscenes? With potentially any number of characters being in your control did the story still feel coherent?

The first game was great but it was hard to handle. It's almost like playing a 3rd person zombie RTS.

I don't know anything about the new game, but the first one was a good time. Hopefully the second one is just a better version.

I enjoyed the first State of Decay but it got repetitive fairly quick I thought. Still, I look forward to this second installment.

I enjoyed the first game, although the fact that time ran to some extent even when you weren't playing made me a tad neurotic about it.

Forgot about that. I think I manually copy/pasted my previous saves each time so I'll continue where I left off. I didn't like the idea of coming home from work or from a weekend of camping and find some characters died while I was gone.

Unless they changed it for the Xbone version the only thing that happened while offline was things that you were building got finished. Never had anyone die while I was offline or anything like that.

Anyway the game was good but was piss poorly optimized, even on the Xbox One version I had several zombies clip through doors(Even had a boss zombie do that into my base) and frame drops fairly often. I think my story mode got glitched so I never finished that but the infinite survival mode was much better anyway.

It also had numerous gameplay issues that were tedious, like anyone who isn't your current character needed babysitting and always went out on some random mission, needed your help to finish and wouldn't come back until you did.
