I got it off psn years ago. Tried to play a little but it just didn't feel fun (also I point blank refuse to play games with inverted camera controls that can't be adjusted. I hope they fix that for the port)

I don't know if the ps4 trilogy will be a faithful recreation of the original games, but I'm just wondering what kinda game is Spyro. Is it like banjo kazooie, an open world endless collectathon fest?

it was okay, not as open ended as banjo kazooie (or as good)

But the same vein? It's not a platformer like crash or something?

Yeah, it's less about platforming at times and more like collecting. Worlds are slightly more linear than Banjo though.

I was absolutely in love with those games growing up. Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage was the first game I got 100% in at 10 years old. Played all three of the original trilogy. The first one is definitely not as good as the later two. It is similar to how I'd rate the first Crash Bandicoot game to the next two. It's an early go at this type of game and doesn't have many of the essential features that were integral to later games. Still certainly playable and enjoyable, but a notch below the other two. I feel like the third game Year of the Dragon is generally the best regarded, but I prefer the second game Ripto's Rage.

The game had really great sounding music. The worlds had a lot of character and charm to them. It had that IT factor for me greater than Banjo Kazooie, but I still love BK. Personally, Spyro is my favorite of all of the 3D platformers of the ps1/n64 era.

Levels are generally a pretty linear design compared to Banjo Kazooie. You are typically designed to do the objectives in a rough order with branching paths and maybe a little bit of back tracking. Levels are a good deal smaller, but there are many more of them and each of them has their own vibe to it. Spyro 2 had cutscenes before and after finishing a level that showed you the problem with that world initially then showed you a concluding cutscene after Spyro helps out that community.

My understanding is that the new Spyro reignited trilogy is going to be almost a complete redo of the original games. I even think they are redoing some of the music which worries me. I believe more modern aspects like the camera should be improved upon as it was a very common complaint, but I do not recall seeing anything specifically about that.

I've just gotten the impression that the game is being updated to modern standards very significantly similar to what just happened with the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy.

Also, I know I'm an outlier, but I still play Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage to 100% at least once a year still. I still love that game. I understand the complaints with the camera system though. It isn't very good, but I've gotten used to it and I have like the whole game memorized so I personally don't notice it too much. I can certainly see why someone new to the game would be frustrated with it.

I hope they do quite a bit to fix that in the upcoming reignited trilogy.

Unlike Crash which is more rail platforming, Spyro is more open world like but still within courses. But it's a children's game.

I liked Spyro.

I think it suffers from the whole 'platforming sequel needs a whole lot of mini-games' thing that a lot of platformers suffered from back then. But overall it's solid.

PS1 has no good platformers. Except maybe Crash 2 IF I'm being generous.
