Imagine thinking we know everything about this story.

Imagine thinking that those bystanders around scene know the whole story.

No one here has any idea what happened, for all we know they could have been criminals and the cops got a tip that they were waiting there for a friend and got there to arrest them in time. They don't need to discuss the details to the public.

Imagine that they were arrested out of racism. I know you won't but just pretend you did.

So the cops who rolled up know more of the story than those bystanders who were in the Starbucks with the black guys before they were being arrested? They were in a Starbucks, a public place, so those bystanders could see and hear those black guys just as much as the employees or those cops.

So yes I think those bystanders did, in fact, know the whole story. But please go on and talk about how "no one here has any idea what happened" and use that to create facts to make this not seem racist.

EDIT: Oh and guess what? They were real estate brokers. They were waiting for a family friend. But please go on about not knowing the full story. I'm sure that isn't a completely 100% B.S. deflection to hide the racism.

So they were asked to buy something then cops came. While it's bullshit because Starbucks is supposed to be what is effectively a public space that sells coffee the cops at least had a justifiable, if bullshit, reason. Barista and manager should both be fired and blacklisted from ever working at Starbucks and in the service industry ever again

Yep, Starbucks has never had a you must buy something before you can use the restroom or sit down rule. I know this because I used to use SB as a meeting spot multiple times a week and never bought a thing from them ever. Was always able to sit down and use the restroom, no matter which one I went to and I went to so many different ones around town that I feel like Id been to most in the metroplex.

Starbucks themselves describes themselves as an open place. There is no time limit or a need to buy before using their services. There were also other people doing the same thing as these two gentlemen without being bothered.

A private business that has an open door policy and has apologized to these men for how they were treated. The only pertinent question left is why they were treated differently than other people in the restaurant at the time, in violation of corporate policy. The manager needs to be questioned about this.

Almost like loitering in or on a business or it's property isn't an offense worthy of the business asking someone to leave if they're not going to patronize said business.

This still seems weird. Id imagine other black people have done the same thing in the past without incident. Did a barista just freak out because theyre afraid of black people or did a manager misinterpret some kind of action?

I'm mostly curious how it escalated from like 0 to 100. It's pretty obvious the main reason was that they were black. I just want to know what went through everyone's head to make it go from "I'm uncomfortable around black people" to "arrest those thugs".

Exactly how Starbucks current policy would have treated this situation. The cafes have traditionally allowed people to linger. In 2009, the company released a statement saying it does not have any time limits for guests: We strive to create a welcoming environment for all of our customers. We do not have any time limits for being in our stores, and continue to focus on making the Third Place experience for every Starbucks customer.

Nothing says anything about no purchase necessary. "Customer", in this quote, implies purchase is actually necessary.

Quote the article because I read it and I don't see anything of the sort. Nothing about "non-paying" customers. "Non-paying" appears nowhere in this link:

https://www.cnet.com/news/starbucks-stay-as-long-as-you-want/

The article is talking about "low rent" customers that purchase only a single coffee and sit there for hours.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that some New York coffee shops were pulling the plug on customers that park themselves at tables, open their laptops, and hang out for hours, buying perhaps only a single latte as their cafe rental fee.

Sounds like an employee called and said they were trespassing.

I wonder if the employee had already talked to them.

If this is the case the police had a reason to arrest but usually they would just escort off property. I wonder what the guys said.

Anyways sounds like a possibly shitty employee and a poorly handled situation.
