If you judge the game by only platinum's side it wasnt even a great platinum game. The combo system is shallow compared to bayonetta/mgr and the rpg element is just so weak.

If all the narrative didnt exist, the game would probably be criticized by hardcore P* fans.

In contrast, if nier automata is a purely yoko taro game, it wouldnt sell as well but old yoko taro fans would still love it. It just probably wont sell and killed yoko's career.

I am glad these 2 sides met and it kinda balance in the middle.

As a story game, it is arguably the most simple yoko taro games (as in the crazy amount of plot threads, characters, connections etc. I still love it, but lets be real. Compared to nier/drakengard it is still one of the most linear game of yoko taro)

and as platinum games, at least the one made by the main team it is the shallowest one in mechanics and combos.

At the same time it balances out as nier automata is yoko taro's game with the best gameplay and platinum's with the base story

Bottom line is i am glad it exist and succeed. We just have to count on square enix not to milk the new cash cow until it is dead and dry and mutate into a horrible abominable form.

taro wouldn't hop aboard a project he didn't want to do

at the same time, if SE decided to make a nier game without him, i doubt he'd care much. he doesn't seem too precious about the thing he made

I am not talking about difficulty, no raising the difficulty to force you not to button mash isnt the same same having an actual deep system. Nier automata still have a combo sysyem, albeit a very very simple compared to something like bayonetta.

All you do in nier is mostly combining light and heavy attack, weapon types and the bot abilities to chain attacks whereas bayonetta or MGR have actual combo system with precise timing and button combination to produce unique moves
