@Ogurisama at the very least.

I don't know who else is out in Oilberta. I know it's an "older" article, but it pertains.

http://financialpost.com/opinion/canada-may-already-be-carbon-neutral-so-why-are-we-keeping-it-a-secret

Also, we know the difference between CO2 and CO... right?

Half this board is Canadian and almost all are from Alberta.

I think that article is stupid. Of course we're carbon neutral. As far as countries go, we have a medium sized population but an absolutely gargantuan sized geography, beating out every country on Earth with the exception of Russia. The entire northern 75% of the country is dense forest.

The article dismisses the fact that in terms of emissions we are pound-for-pound doing worse than many other first world countries. We've given ourselves low climate restrictions to help us in mining and oil drilling, which are the two industries that have made Canada one of the most powerful economies on Earth. We can do better, and relying on the natural forests that geography has granted us is a stupid, lazy excuse. I guarantee that the author of that moronic article is in bed with the oil tycoons.

Yeah, it's kind of weird...

Anyways, even if true, it doesn't help us at all. Whether we like it or not, oil is dying and we need to shift our focus or be left in the dust.

Even if we try to claim that Canada is dealing with a decent amount of other countries' pollution, what will happen if we do? Nothing. Nothing at all. They're not going to pay us for that, because we'll be doing it regardless. It's not going to make us look good in front of other countries, because it's due to our land, not our efforts. It's the equivalent of saying, "Yeah, I passed the test and I didn't even study for it." It doesn't impress anyone and shows that you can't even put out the effort.

Yeah, I am surprised that most of the Canadians here are from Alberta.

Alberta may be the worse for carbon in canada, but it is kinda needed at the moment. Just stopping the oil sands without a backup plan will make Alberta a Detroit

The oil barons are all like "we're aborbing like 30% more CO2 than we have to, lets build more!"

And I'm like "We're still about 700% under as a planet, so, like, every little bit helps"

Totally agree on that. Feels like that's what the NDP is trying to do right now though. Like, it's great that we're moving away from oil and coal, but the area I live in is really suffering because of it.

Oil is cheap and has crazy power density to weight, it's definitely not dying.
