The Vatican has arrested Msgr. Carlo Alberto Capella, the Italian priest who served as the diplomat in the Vaticans embassy in Washington D.C., on charges of possessing and sharing child pornography.

And Canadian officials alleged that during Christmas of 2016, Capella downloaded child pornography from a church parish computer. The Wall Street Journal reported on the Canadian arrest warrant: Police in Windsor, Ontario said they have issued a nationwide warrant for the diplomat, Msgr. Carlo Alberto Capella, 50, after receiving information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in February.

Another priest who makes the entire church look bad

In Italy there's this lawyer-turned-male escort called Francesco Mangiacapra who escorted for a bunch of priests but secretly recorded them and built files on them. Now he wrote a book and is trying to get all of them prosecuted. It's a big thing over there.

I'm the furthest thing from a fan of christianity as a whole, I don't believe it's the entire religion that that's the cause of the problem they have with sexually abusing minors.

I think it's mostly the idea that you can be "forgiven." That along with the church's tendency to cover it up seems to really stop a lot of things that would deter these sick predators.

If the church/religion had a position where the sexual exploitation of children was an unforgivable sin that automatically meant you couldn't be forgiven and would end up in hell, along with being handed over to the police or at least getting permanently kicked out of the church I doubt this would happen as much
