This is an awful opinion. The first like 3 seasons of Southpark are fucking awful not just from a technical aspect, they just aren't clever or very interesting. They really have not aged well. The show hit its peak around seasons 6-9 then fell off and picked back up again in 19. 19 was the best season of the show. 20 was awful and 21 was just ok but not nearly as awful as 20 was. 20 was probably the worst season since season 2 tbh.

Yeah seasons 10-18 are all hit and miss tbh. There is great episodes splattered in all those seasons, but there is no really great season amongst them. Seasons 6, 7, 8, 9, and 19 are absolutely the best seasons of the show by far. 6-9 was the best 4 years of the show though.

Yeah it was obvious trolling. The audience at the place was highly liberal and this is the #MeToo era with constant liberal activism permeating the entertainment industry, particularly award ceremonies. It was an obvious jab.

Especially since they (or one of them, can't remember) are actually in the Libertarian party.

It's an animated show. It's still currently running on TV.

I honestly outgrew the humor about a decade ago. That's not me saying that it's not a good show anymore, just that my humor tastes went elsewhere.

I know that they just as easily call out liberals as well as conservatives.

I've also found that conseratives are the ones who more frequently celebrate and cling to the "South Park made fun of liberals yaaaaaay!" rather than the reverse. I mean I understand. One way is significantly easier than the other.

That the jokes aren't mean spirited and are trying to serve a higher purpose for a greater good... As such they're not meant to be offensive, especially not to liberals since so many of the episodes have rather liberal themes.

Well of course it uses offensive language and themes to convey its messages and illustrate the absurdity of certain mindsets.

It really isn't, at least when it's at it's best and not being lazy. It uses "offensive material" to the point of absurdity to relay a message, but it's really no different than any comedian who does that. At least to me anyway. I don't watch it thinking "OMG THEY ARE GONNA TRIGGER SO MANY PEOPLE LMAO" as for the most part there tends to be a reason for such content.

Again, at least when the show was at it's best. After 21 seasons there obviously is going to be dud episodes that miss that point.

Hahahah this is really accurate.

I started watching South Park waaay back in the 90s when the most political they got was... IDK, saying the rainforest sucked ass. Even back then, everyone knew they were self-declared Republicans, but they were also self-declaring this about themselves when Republicans weren't neo-cons through and through. South Park is hardly a neo-con show and that side is usually one they lambast. Of course, they lambast the overly nave liberal side as well, and also call out anyone on any bullshit they feel like without really looking at themselves all that much.

I don't consider myself a liberal, but I am on the left side politically more than I am on the right side. I believe in lessening the central gov't's authority, which they'd likely believe in.

All in all, I tend to agree with most of their stances. However, when it comes down to it, they really don't take a strong stance on something divisive when it would be more socially beneficial if they did. They don't want to be too preachy, sure, but they have the influence to make a preachy episode count a lot.
