so I was trying to wrap my head around why your feelings would be complicated and I just found out that highlight = beast... well I'm sure you mentioned it when it happened but I probably glossed over it. I was wondering why I hadn't heard about them in awhile.

i've gone into it a bit here and there, but i also try to spare y'all from a lot of it. you don't need my hot takes about how highlight fans pretend to care about hyunseung only when it gives them an excuse to bash cube. my new favourite argument from lights is that 'cube would not have changed if beast/highlight didn't leave' and like holy fuck, not everything has to be about y'all, just let people stan in peace and stop being sore winners. i hate cube for how they've been treating hyunseung, and i'm glad that they've been doing better with their current groups, all of which i like a lot. both of these are simultaneously true.

speaking of, cube confirming that hyunseung and shin sooji's relationship ended today is how i learned that he's still with cube. i was thinking he might have left, but i guess that was wishing thinking, and it only feels like it because cube has done fuck all with him.

idol groups aren't a big thing there from what i understand, but there have been attempts (just from watching the first ep, it feels more of them are from disbanded groups than not). 'idol producer' (unlicensed boy version with the produce 101 format) was popular though, and that along with this show feels like a big push for that industry. i could be wrong though, since i don't follow c-idols at all. i'm watching it because xuanyi and meiqi are on it.

Latata - the beat drop takes up way too much of the song. a bit empty, and doesn't really have a climax either, but there are still individual parts i like.
$$$/Different - i know we talk about kpop songs being multiple songs in one a lot, but this takes it to another level. i dig it, though. jeon soyeon gets a long verse and it's great.
Maze - the snippet reminded me of 'black dress', but not at all in the full track. i think this is going to be the standout for a lot of people and should probably have been the title track.
Don't Text Me - love this one. a chill song with a space-y synth backdrop and jeon soyeon's rap punctuating it where needed.
Track 5/I Want To Know - love this one, too. it grooves. i was looking forward to this one the most after the snippets, and it delivers.
Track 6/Listen To Me - not bad for the obligatory ballad. really highlights how distinct each of their voices are.

oh for sure. SM does shit like this, and is also trying to sell expensive flights to stalker fans, and they're the biggest name in the industry rather than some shady fly-by-night operation. kpop fans cosign the commodification of idols hard, and the relationship stuff is only part of it.

Today I found out through another video that one other old AKB48 member (also in Oogoe Diamond) is not only still in the group but also came to PD48, Miyazaki Miho who's actually a big kpop fan. I thought that's pretty cool.

I don't know. As a protest, I guess until something real changes. A cynical joke, maybe. Openly mocking some of the people that actually support you (well, as much as they can in that system), not sure if that's the right move. I guess she's just taking it out on whoever she can. Which is why it's sad.
