I've got about a year and 3 days before my CCNP Route/Switch cert expires and I need to stop being lazy and get a new professional level cert so that it gets renewed for another 3 years.

I definitely enjoyed taking a break from studying, but in hindsight, I kinda wish I had just kept the momentum going instead. I got about half way through the CCNA Wireless book last year, but the corporate office move happened. Working 80+ hour weeks for a couple weeks killed any motivation I had to continue studying.

Yeah. CCNA level exam questions are mostly theoretical to make sure you understand the concepts and troubleshooting. Like you'll get a lot of questions where you're given a readout from a certain command and you have to answer specific questions about it or be able to determine certain things from the readout. There are a few questions where you have to type in commands to find information relevant to the question you're being asked.

With CCNP level stuff, it focuses more on the actual real world implementation practices and the questions are much more lab focused. They'll give you an actual network design (layer 2 and layer 3) and you'll have to figure out where the problems are by logging into the virtual devices and running commands.

Also, the CCNP level certs often require 3 or more exams while most CCNA level certs require 1 or 2 exams at the most.

CCENT = 1 exam
CCNA Route/Switch = 1 exam
-- Or you can take an "all-in-one" one exam and get your CCNA right off the bat if you pass it.
CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) = 1 exam

CCNP Route/Switch = 3 exams. ROUTE, SWITCH, and TSHOOT.
CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional) = 3 exams. ROUTE, SWITCH, and ARCH.

I'm most likely going to go for the design professional cert. I'd have to do the CCDA exam and then only 1 of the professional level exams because I passed ROUTE and SWITCH when I did CCNP Route/Switch.
