So i want to try going vegetarian for a bit just to see how it makes me feel after a while. This video inspired me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc5BnTYRgx8" data-time="

Now my question is how do you get your testosterone if you don't eat meat? Meat is the #1 source of testosterone for males. If i mostly eat plant foods, won't i be consuming too many pythoestrogens?

I'm assuming that adding eggs and real butter into your diet would offset this due to both of those things boosting testosterone.

Lastly, how do you feel as a vegetarian or vegan? Healthier or about the same as before you started.

@ASithLord7 you're vegetarian right? What do you eat?

You haven't been getting nutritional advice from a comedian, have you? Let's look at some science.

Vegans have equivalent or higher t levels than meat eaters and vegetarians.

You're concerned about phytoestrogens, but not the mammalian estrogen that's pumped into factory farmed meat and dairy? Phytoestrogen function varies by receptor - ex beta receptor phytoestrogens in soy prevent excess development of breast tissue in men and prevent breast cancer. Alpha receptor phytoestrogens in beer hops may promote the opposite effect. In general, there's no evidence to be concerned with overconsumption of them under normal conditions (not potent lab supplementation of them).

There's enough diversity in plants to achieve any health goals. I've felt great since going vegan, my t levels even rose a bit, and I'm not deficient in anything. I've even taken up powerlifting again. Hope this helps!

So I've been a vegetarian for 24 years and testosterone has never been an issue. It's something people just make normally. Also, I consume a reasonable amount of soy in my diet with no issues either. The phytoestrogen thing is wildly blown out of proportion.

The biggest trick to a vegetarian diet is protein consumption. I've done it so long it's second nature but getting a good mix of plant-based proteins is important. It's not hard but you have to be conscious about it. Nuts, beans, peas, soy, spinach all contain decent amounts of protein. If you are going vegetarian and not vegan then you can also consume dairy and dairy. Cottage cheese in particular is a great protein choice.

The other thing to be careful of is when you are eating out. Sometimes you'll go to a restaurant and your best (or only options) will just be apps like nachos and or mozzarella sticks. None of which are remotely good for you. That's fine on occasion, but if you eat out a lot you'll be consuming a lot of crap if you aren't careful. Same goes for snacks. There is a lot of very tasty junkfood out there that is perfectly vegetarian and it's easy to eat too much of it. Especially if you've got a "well I'm not eating meat, so it's okay" mindset.

As far as how it makes you feel. That's hard to say. I don't really remember my pre-vegetarian life. You'll need to talk to someone who has more recently become a vegetarian for a better answer.

Because only 3.2 percent of America is vegetarian. Only .5 are vegan.

Yeah but that 3.2% includes everyone. The older populace is the least likely to be vegetarian and also the least likely to be using a video game message board. Without seeing whatever stats you are referencing, I'd wager the vegetarian population among the same demographics most likely to use a site like GFAQs is much higher than 3.2%.

His numbers are from a 2008 Harris poll. They did break it down by age and found 5.3% of 18-34 were vegetarian. The number has only grown, as many high profile athletes have gone vegan since 2014. Current numbers are all over the place, with some finding vegans outnumbering vegetarians.

To add to this, it's very easy for new vegetarians to over do it on starches like pasta and rice.

I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years. I always consider going vegan, but the cost to get enough decent tasting protein to work out seems like an issue.

You won't have testosterone issues, no idea where that myth cam from. It's also extremely easy to be a vegetarian. I'd suggest trying that before vegan.

Also at least for me and many I know, you very rarely get a craving for meat, but it's not as bad as people act even if you do. The smell of meat kinda becomes... Not good or bad... just unfamiliar I guess? You can still eat with friends and go out to grills and BBQs and you won't get some crazy horrible drug addict craving for meat.

A cheap and decent tasting alternative to a whey shake is seriously all that's keeping you from being vegan?

This is absolutely true. I'm not repulsed by meat. The smell doesn't gross me out. Watching people eat it doesn't bother me in any capacity. But I have zero desire to eat it. It's as much food to me as the table I'm sitting at. It's nothing.

No you will not. You consume far more estrogen eating dairy than you do from any soy. Soy does not impact your T. Meat does not give you T.

I've invited you to the veg board. You or anyone else are welcome. Just request it or PM me!
