I see a lot of "one car goes on one end, one car goes on the other end" but that seems pretty inefficient. If you ask me the rules should just be: When it's just one car on each side approaching, the first one to get there goes first, like a stop sign. Group of cars? 2-3 cars go at a time on one side, 2-3 cars go on the other side. Seems more efficient to me. But I almost never see this happening so I'm always on edge when I get to a one lane bridge because you never know what the fuck people are gonna do.

But anyway

I imagine that is more efficient, but one at a time it probably the only way that prevents a whole train of people just railroading the bridge to make the other side not go at all.

Any town with a one lane bridge is probably small enough that you dont need to worry about heavy traffic.

This is not true unfortunately.

I think 2-3 cars is fair, but people will abuse that and keep going.

When I was on Kauai there were several one lane bridges. There were signs saying it's customary to let 5-6 cars go at a time and in my experience everyone followed the signs.

There is one near my dad's house. It's one lane, concrete and no guard rails. When it rains really hard the water rises to almost the height of the bridge which is like 6-7 feet. If your car goes in when it's that high your done. Thankfully I've never heard of any accidents there

The normal human way is, when you come to a one lane bridge, you cross it. Then when it turns out there was already someone else almost to the end, you sit there and wait for them to back the whole way across the bridge, staying two inches away to make sure they're nice and nervous.
