Current Events > Two of my friends just got into a huge fight because of DnD

One of them had a character with the backstory of being a parent and trying a little adventuring to make a better life for his family. Well, the DM decided to kill them off as a way to set up the evil wizard and then raise them as zombies bound to serve him.
The player asked point-blank if there would be a way to reverse the undeath and turn them to the living, the DM said no.

Huge fight at our table and I guess we're not meeting next week.

Straight up saying no is just bad DMing, cause reversing it could be the start of an epic quest.

I don't see why true ressurection wouldn't work, since it doesn't have an explicit restriction against the target being undead. Or wish for that matter.

If its 3.5, true ressurection explicitly allows it as long as you destroy the undead first.

I never played a table top game before, and it's crap like this that makes me never be interested to start.

Slightly more complicated than that, but either way a DM should always be accepting of you making an effort to do whatever you want.

It was actually a decent move by the DM (albeit heavyhanded) originally, but as soon as he outright said "no" you cannot save your family he became a total asshole.

Reminds me of a time that I made a character with a dead wife and he's just trying to get paid to help raise his daughter. Very down to earth and I loved that.

DM sounds like a jerk. I'm very picky about who DMs. I usually hope for the good and decent kind...always hate the DMs who either make everything into a joke or has power issue.

I think you're confused. The Father's family were killed and made into zombies.

Him killing the family is fine. If you give a character a family for a backstory expect them to be captured or killed. Saying no you can't bring them back is a dick move.
