My online searches have been confusing. All I can find is either digital distribution or an OEM disc, which is not the same.

7 has (had?) discs. 10 I'm not sure if it ever had factory pressed discs but you can still easily create your own installation media, whether that's disc, USB drive, whatever.

You will probably not find a usable Windows 7 disc, but you should be able to find a Windows 10 disc at most pc hardware retailers.

I may be missing something, but I'm pretty sure an OEM disc is what you want. that's what you'd make if you burned the image to a DVD. WarGreymon77 posted... My old PC had a Vista recovery DVD that saved my ass many times. recovery discs are vendor specific and are basically windows discs that don't really let you install windows. they're just "reset" discs that the computer builder made so that you can reinstall windows without having a real windows disc. (well, there are other things that are called "recovery" discs, but IIRC you make them with windows itself or with OEM discs in the first place.) --- The truth basks in scrutiny. http://i.imgur.com/GMouTGs.jpg http://projecteuler.net/profile/Sahuagin.png ... I was hoping for a retail disc. The ones they used to sell in stores. I remember the one for Windows 98 being about $300. Not that I ever bought an OS.

Not that I ever bought an OS. isn't that just an OEM disc? all you would get by purchasing that is a cardboard case with an OEM disc and a windows key inside. Maybe a paper manual I guess in the olden days. I'm not aware of any other differences. --- The truth basks in scrutiny. http://i.imgur.com/GMouTGs.jpg http://projecteuler.net/profile/Sahuagin.png ... Copied to Clipboard!
