Apparently it's a taboo to watch a movie by yourself at a movie theatre because you don't want to look like the loner who sits alone while most other people are sitting with friends....

If my friends are busy, I will go alone. It only happened for BvS and John Wick 2 though. Usually have one friend that has the same time off as I do to go see a movie.

Done it before a couple times when I've had a random spare day at short notice. I'm perfectly content with the knowledge that I am married and have a normal social life, I don't care what some strangers temporally think of me.

i saw Grand Budapest Hotel by myself and it was a 10/10 experience

I've never done it and always thought it was weird, but there have been a couple movies where I've been tempted.

All the time, and gladly will. A lot of my friends aren;t into the same kind of movies I am, so when I wanna see some more artsy-ish films, I'll just go by myself or occasionally convince my GF to go, and just see action movies and such with my friends.

I'll eat at a sit-down restaurant by myself too. If I want to eat somewhere or watch something, I'm gonna do it, period. Not doing what you want for fear of others judging you just reeks of insecurity to me tbh.

i dont think it is at all.

movies are not a social activity. you sit there and shut up. going by myself affords me conveniences and not having to compromise with anyone else. i prefer it.

If I had a movie theater nearby and time to kill I'd watch a movie alone again.

Yes, and it's a dumb taboo, especially as your job as an moviegoer is to shut the fuck up while watching the movie.

Going to a movie with a friend or a loved one is certainly more fun, but going by yourself is no different than watching a TV show by yourself.
