Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has encouraged police officers to be rougher on suspects they arrest. He has deployed federal authorities to stem gun violence in Chicago. And he has repeatedly called for police nationwide to implement tough-on-crime policies. But when it comes to the deaths of black men at the hands of police, Trump believes those incidents are a "local matter" that "should be left up to the local authorities," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday. "Certainly a terrible incident," Sanders said when asked about the fatal police shootings of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Stephon Clark in California. Is that the criminal who walked towards the police with his phone pointed at them? Suicide by cop? I don't see the need for the White House to comment. Pretty clear cut case. Obviously there needs to be an investigation (like all shootings), but I'm sure it'll turn out like the rest: no charges filed and the officers will return to work. No. Alton Sterling was an illegally-armed pedophile in Baton Rouge that cops had on the ground and, while they were trying to cuff him, he kept reaching for his gun, so they shot him. --- 'It's okay that those gangbangers stole all my personal belongings and cash at gunpoint, cuz they're building a rec center!' - OneTimeBen ...
