Whats the shorthand history with these games? Rockeign 03/30/18 7:40:45 AM #10:	I played all of them except Fortnite, so Ill explain a little bit for each one, at least for me: League of Legends: I played PvP in WoW and everyone I knew was leaving WoW PvP for LoL. They say it was way more balanced and playing a game that was made for PvP from the ground up is a different experience. It was hard to get into at first since it was a new genre and game, but I came to find myself liking the world, characters and gameplay. LoL is based off of a Warcraft 3 mod called Defense of the Ancients. The dudes who made the game decided to make a game with their own assets and lore, and thats where LoL came from. Eventually the big money came in and they started focuses on their eSports league. At its core though, the game is still fun and the quality has only improved. It gets a bad wrap for its community and I can see why, youre stuck with these guys for a half hour to 40-50 minutes per game, and its sucks to lose when someone isnt pulling their weight. This causes people to meltdown and this game is infamous for that. Overwatch: Eventually I got tired of LoL and decided to try out Overwatch. Im not a big FPS guy, only really playing Halo before this but Blizzard made it and it looked polished enough so I decided to try it out. Its a fun game but the balance issues hold it back. The most fun heroes are so gimmicky that theyre only really good in specific scenarios, if even that, and because of the direction the game went in, who knows if thatll change. Unlike LoL who gave time before they went to eSports, Overwatch had eSports on the brain before they even left the gate. Pushing everything else to the wayside, including fun, they began working on their eSports league, ignoring all else including content, balance, and player voices. In addition, the golden child heroes remain at the top while other characters are grossly ignored. One character has over 30, literally 30 bugs and the devs pretend hes fine and claim he had a good launch. The game is fun but at the same time, it suffers from the same community problem as League. Except its worse here because OW has access to voice chat. Overwatch is by far the most toxic community Ive been a part of, if you play a character the community as a whole doesnt like, except abuse every game because OW doesnt even have a scoreboard to show you whos pulling weight. PUBG: This is a 100 man battle royale game. I got it because I never heard of the concept in game form and wanted to try it out. Its okay. I can see why a lot of people like it, but playing solo gets old unless youre a beast at the game and even then, theres not much in terms of progression. Team play is where the fun is at, and thats because the game is so dynamic; no 2 games play the same. Fortnite though? PUBG runs on the sone engine the Fortnite boys made, it might be the Unreal Engine or Epic Engine, I forget the specifics. Either way, these guys had a hand in PUBGs success and decided hey, lets try and get some of this PUBG money for ourselves? And so Fortnite was born and PUBG was piiiissed. I mean, even if everything is legally bound, you cant tell me that isnt shady. Fortnite I like PUBG is free to play, so that already got some of the PUBG curious to try their game, plus since PUBG was infamously unpolished, it also got the food of some of the ones who wanted to like PUBG, but died one too many times off of bullshit. Also it has a cartoony style which also draws in those who were turned off some PUBGs super serious, artstyle. They were able to see the limitations he was hitting and optimize them for their game. Its like a property owner seeing his tenants success running a niche restaurant and they open their own right across the street. Is WoW dead now? no. the subscription numbers are nowhere near where they used to be in the late 2000s but WoW got some new life breathed into it with the latest expansion, and there's a new one coming out this fall.
