They opted for manga faithfulness instead of making a standalone story, for season one anyway.

But based on what I know from the manga, all that buildup is going to pay off in spades later on. It'll probably help to think of AoT as just one big story instead of seasons of an anime.

By B-plot I'm referring to the various side stories. It's a term from storywriting where the solution to the B-plot's problems is microcosm for the solution to the main plot

Much worse is shows that only get one season and don't even bother trying to resolve the plot; just pick a stopping point and call it a day.

They referenced the whole Dark Ocean subplot near the end, but never resolved it in any way.

I'm looking at you, Deadman Wonderland.

I would highly argue that that is better than a show where it's incredibly apparent they were told, you're not getting a S2 or second cour and then they jam way too much in the last few episodes.

Gargantua of the verdurous planet is a huge offender. I was really enjoying it, but it falls apart really bad at the end imo.

the second season has like a few good episodes and the rest are side stories
