AP classes get kind of ridiculous with the inflated GPAs, there are kids with like 5.6 GPAs now

literally impossible, the highest GPA you can get from a weighted class is a 5.0

We had 6.0 GPA classes in my high school for IB classes, but you couldn't get a 6.0 because we were required to take regular classes with no AP or IB alternatives for diploma requirements. But you could get above a 5.0 on your diploma.

yo wtf is wrong with your school lmao. Why does it have to be different and complicated like that >_>

1270 on his SAT'

isnt the SAT out of 2400 now

Think it's back to 1600.

Wait, when did this happen? I remember I took my SAT back in like 2005ish and the 2400 score just came out like the year before.

What's with the 1600 score now? Is it still 800 math and 800 reading? Is there still an essay?

A score of 1270 is about 85th percentile. Decent, but not amazing.

Reading and writing are scored together, and math is separate as always.

It's not particularly good, but it's not "terrible" like some of the weirdos itt are suggesting. But you don't need a great SAT score to go to a university anyway

1270 isn't a GREAT SAT score, but yes, it's serviceable. I got a 1490 though so his score ain't shit.

If they actually didnt accept them solely because of their March, thats stupid. But all of the UC schools are super competitive, so its likely a non-story. Not gonna drudge through this likely failure of a topic.

a bunch of LIBERAL UC's rejecting a bunch of kids pushing a LIBERAL agenda?

either the right has been lying or this is actual fake news

Alternatively universities are nearly as liberal as some conservatives like to pretend, and like most things in this world, tend to be somewhere in the middle.

There are a lot of good schools in the US.

The tuition alone for the UC schools for out-of-state students is over $40k. Whereas Florida Atlantic's tuition for in-state students is $201.29 for each credit. So 30 credits would cost $6038.70

Yeah, and UC schools are still highly regarded.

Theyre really good schools despite how much the right hates California.

lol at that SAT score getting into a top-3 tier UC. Git gud son. GPA is solid tho, but no one should be bitching and whining about getting rejected for UCLA or UCSD, those are VERY good universities, some of the best in the state. I know people with top notch scores from highly competitive high schools that get rejected by them.

Ignoring duckbear being a weird man, this caused me to look into the SAT.

I took it when it was out of 2400.

"Some of the major changes are: an emphasis on the use of evidence to support answers, a shift away from obscure vocabulary to words that students are more likely to encounter in college and career, a math section that is focused on fewer areas, a return to the 1600-point score scale, an optional essay, and the removal of penalty for wrong answers (rights-only scoring)."

fucking cheap :/

What does that have to do with anything? If he lived in California those schools would be great choices. But the expensive out-of-state tuition + the cost of living in California means he may have to take out $200k+ in student loans to go to one of the UCs.

Of the schools listed, Florida Atlantic University is by far the best choice for him (unless he gets a large scholarship, but he probably won't because the scholarships will mostly go to California residents)

Wow, so overall they made it easier it sounds like >_> I remember skipping questions I had no clue on so the penalty would be softer. Now I guess it doesn't matter

I took the SAT in March, I assure you that at least the 'Writing' portion is still pure bullshit.

I am of the opinion that the ACT is just a better, more objective test

Not that the entire education system being built on categorizing students by tests like that isn't bullshit
