Lol no it's not. The best most expensive solar panels available have a 22% efficiency and on average 12%. Fossil fuels have on average 40% with some as high as 80%. This is the cold hard truth of the crux of the problem.

That isn't relevant to what I posted. I said the cost of solar is dropping. It looks like in 2008 the cost of solar was $8.82 per watt, now it's around $2-$3 per watt.

Isn't that still substantially higher than with traditional energy sources?

Why would solar, wind, and water turbines not be able to provide the electricity to heat a home? The cost of solar keeps dropping. It seems to be viable.

Because the majority of houses will not convert to use it. They will still rely on natural gas. That's just a small part of what fossil fuels does for society.

With the current rate of lithium consumption, the supply isn't big enough to upgrade every vehicle to use it. Let's not forget that Airlines are heavily reliant on fossil fuels and rechargeables are not efficient enough run it. I bet you didn't know that each 10 hour flight uses about 36,000 gallons of gasoline. Well, now you know.

I guess I don't understand why you are so dismissive of something like solar for a home, in say 100 years. If the cost continues to drop, why would it not be an option?

Of course it's an option. Some people are doing that right now, but it doesn't mean we won't be reliant on fossil fuels for the next 100 years.

Doesn't mean we will either and there's a lot of people who don't believe we will. Far more than those who do if we're being honest.

We'll see.

Well it's really hard to determine what will happen in 50 years much less 100 years. The most likely scenario is that the world's supply of fossil fuels will be stretched to their absolute limit within 75 years and an extreme energy crisis will occurr that will either spur a miracle of engineering that will prove to make fossil fuels obsolete or, the world will self sestruct in a series of wars for control of the remaining supplies.

We aren't talking about today at this very minute. We are talking about the future.

I think renewable energy will only start taking off once it becomes cost competitive with non renewable energy without government subsidies. That could happen in 100 years or sooner when non renewable energy becomes scarce enough to become more expensive or renewable technology improves, but I see it as a combination of both.

While alternative fuels aren't renewable, would there be a possibility of that? I'm sincerely asking because I don't know.

It is possible the issue is that the likelihood is very low. My last post is the most likely scenario based on what I've seen experts say about the issue.

In a Republic, individuals don't really have a voice. An elected government is just bound by a set of guidelines and not beholden to anything else legally or otherwise. Re-election obviously counts for something, but I think most people are neutral to or in favour of the second amendment.

Obviously that appears to be shifting these days, but 2020 will be the proof of where America actually sits on the issue.

It's a democratic republic, individuals have a voice through the people they elect from local on up. It doesn't just count for something, it's everything.

I just think a basic questionnaire should determine voting rights.

Questions like

"Do you think the world is flat?"
"Do you think Communism is a good idea?"
"Do you think children should be given hormone therapy to delay puberty if their parents believe they are transgender?"
"Do you think that black people cannot be racist?"
Should be asked.

A yes to any of those questions should disqualify people from being eligible to vote.

Aside from this idea just generally being dumb as fuck, why would anyone willingly answer yes to a question if they know that that will disqualify them from voting?

I don't pretend it would actually work or ever be implemented and the logistics of it would be a nightmare. It's just the idea that people who honestly believe the world is flat have pretty much proven that they are incapable of making rational decisions, and them having the right to vote seems like an injustice to the entire world.
