I've been watching my production reports for months now, and they've been negative almost every week. So I went into my annual review fully expecting to get my ass chewed out. My boss sat me down, and we went over my numbers. I was under target numbers for 7 out the 9 categories, but because I was above the group average in all of them I was all good, and I ended up walking out of it with a promotion. I can't say I even felt relived afterwards, just because I was so damn confused. I've been ripping my hair out all year over these numbers just to find out they didn't really matter. Do other company do this?

Are the target numbers that much out of touch with reality, or do your coworkers really suck that bad?

Yeah it's a common thing, especially if you're working with a market constantly in flux.
