I am a PoC. I just got done arguing with another PoC that claimed minorities cannot be racist. Instead, to them, it's just prejudice. But I thought the very definition of racism is basically hateful prejudices based on race.

This went on to how reverse racism isn't a thing and that you can't be racist to white people. I'll concede that the severity varies in that regard, but racism is still racism regardless of your skin tone.

Personally, I'm offended to the same degree when I get called racial slurs, the race of the person saying it notwithstanding.

If one wants to be pedantic, on an institutional level, no. On a personal level, yes. But people love to ignore nuance on the Internet.

This was one my arguments, too.

Also. When I specifically asked if an Asian or Hispanic called a black person the n-word, would that be racist? Their answer? No, it's just prejudice and anti-black. So... racism? What blew my mind is that this person was black.

Regardless of nuance, it's still dumb as hell when people say it without further explanation. I say that as a PoC myself.

I understand and respect that, but it's irritating to refer to someone's comment as "racist" and get shot down by a well-actually.

Of course. They say racism only matters if you have power, but it's entirely possible for a black person to have power in a certain situation and use that against a white person. If a black person decides to kill a random white person solely because they are white, that is obviously racist (the power that they have in this case is the power to inflict damage).

That... sounds like some legendary mental gymnastics...lol.

All I can say is as I grew older I was as thankful as one can be for growing up in such a diverse area. People are crazy man. It's even more odd for me because the biggest divide isn't even blacks and whites for the majority of my city (except two cities/towns/areas idk which is right).

It's hispanics and African Americans. If any of them heard your friend they call him nuts lol.

I've heard many stupid questions but this is probably tops.

Not a sleight at TC since this isn't my first time hearing it - I just find the notion that some people can't be racist idiotic, and kinda racist in and of itself.

Can certain groups also not be sexist? How about homophobic?

The idea that being a certain ethnicity/nationality makes you superior in any way is racist. When someone says minorities can't be racist, they're saying they're superior because of that.

Racism in its truest form is feelings of superiority based solely on race. If you're bright blue, and feel superior to green people, then you're racist.

Kind of, but I think there are two ways to apply this logic: racially and culturally. There are plenty of people who may not look down upon anyone for their skin colour, but look at their society as backwards or inferior for whatever reason and want to "civilize them" (forced assimilation). People often confuse those as the same thing, but they're really not. Don't get me wrong though, neither is nice.
