This is just some random guy who decided to download an archive of the data Facebook had accrued on him. They have records of all of his phone calls, including who they were with, when they were, and how long they lasted. As well as incoming phone calls he missed, and who they were from. He didn't make these calls using a facebook app, either.

I'm downloading mine to see what they have for me. Apparently they collect this data if you use Messenger on an android phone (which I don't but I'm curious what they have).

Facebook says it's something you opt into when you use Messenger. But I don't think anybody really knew they were storing all this until now. Even without the call audio and texts content, you can still learn some big secrets from looking at who calls whom, and for how long. For some people that data could contain very sensitive secrets.

"It's very unusual for apps to collect call log data, since the vast majority of them have no clear purpose in doing so," said Jason Hong, an associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, who studies app privacy.

He said Facebook may have been doing it to help with "friend recommendations" or to better calculate which friends should appear in your feed.

This also means that even if YOU personally don't use Messenger, Facebook still has logs of calls you have made to anybody who DOES have Messenger on their android phone. As well as texts.

For every phone call you've made to somebody with Messenger on their android phone, Facebook knows

when the call was made
how long it lasted
whether it was picked up by them/how many times you tried calling
That it came from you
Your name and whatever other info that person wrote for you in their contacts
Maybe more--I wonder if they get access to photos people use for you in their contacts

And they also know every time you sent a text to that person.

So even if you don't use Messenger or even if you don't use facebook, they can still know who you're calling and texting, and how often, and what your name and phone number are.

i always new something was suspect when they wanted me to download a separate app just for messaging, so i never did download it, but it is fucked how other people with messenger can "infect" you
